Is saddle fit a bigger deal than we think? It absolutely is!
Two of the most important points to remember when checking our saddle fit are;
▪️Is there sufficient wither clearance? That is not your horses shoulder under the pommel, those are your horse’s vertebrae!
▪️Is the saddle not pinching, nor placing pressure on the thoracic trapezius muscle, a non-weight bearing muscle, allowing the scapula to move unimpeded?
Properly fitted saddles allow the horse’s biomechanics to function correctly, and keep the rider over the horses centre of gravity making the rider easier to carry.
A well fitted saddle will ultimately reduce the likelihood of;
▪️Muscular dysfunction
▪️Unsoundness
▪️Pain (“misbehaviour”) from your horse when ridden
But most of all a well fitted saddle will make your horse feel better, move better and allow them to be a happy, healthy and willing partner on our team!

Bring on 2023 đź’Ş
Wishing all my wonderful clients and horse’s a very happy, healthy and successful New Year 🥳
If you’re getting ready to bring your horse back into work after a holiday break, make a plan and allow ample time to build your horse (and yourself!) up to full competition fitness again.
Rest periods can be hugely beneficial to allow horses time to recover from injury, time to grow and time to reenergise, however it’s important to have any existing issues evaluated to ensure the horse is happy, healthy and ready to return to work.

Carver thoroughly enjoying his hard earned massage today ahead of Sydney Summer Classic this weekend.
It’s always a special moment when you’re able to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and gain the horses trust in this way 💕
