According to lots of fitness “experts “ I’ve should have died already.
Or at least have lost complete function of my shoulders
#
Seriously guys…
Protraction, elevation, retraction and anything in between, are absolutely normal movement that the shoulders girdle have to go trough in order to move properly.
#
Whoever made us, (god, the universe, Santa or whichever variation do you believe), knew very well how our body need to move.
There is definitely a spectrum of ranges that can be more or less, quote on quote, safe based on the individual and the type of exercises we are performing
But the fear mongering that some fitness expert are spreading about shoulders problems due to scapula movement, is absolutely ridiculous and an objective lie.
More of a claim than actual truth
#
If your trainer or fitness guru still tell you to “lock your shoulders” find another trainer. Like really

Do you have to squat, bench and deadlift?

Although I’m a big fan of biomechanics and drowning colourful arrows on pictures, I think that a foundation of strength in the basic lift should be a priority for the majority of peoples
#
Out of lockdown boredom I’ve been trough some old training video and I’ve realised how much time I’ve spent getting stronger at the main lifts
#
I wonder where I would be now in terms of physique and strength, if I wouldn’t go trough a period of strength training
#
I still think that squat bench and deadlift are not the best tool specifically for building muscles.
But when performed well, with the right intensity, volume and technique are absolutely phenomenal exercises
#
Do you think is necessary to squat bench and deadlift for overall development?
