🐾 Three of the most extraordinary athletes the dog world has ever produced.

The Vizsla — 64 km/h (40 mph) of pure muscular Hungarian hunting energy. Built for both speed and endurance. A remarkable all-round athlete in every sense.

The Saluki — 68 km/h (42 mph) of ancient elegance. One of the oldest breeds in recorded human history, originally bred to hunt fleet-footed prey like gazelles and hares across vast open desert terrain. Breathtaking in full stride.

72 km/h (45 mph). Within its first six strides it can reach full speed. The highest power-to-weight ratio of any athlete on earth. A double suspension gallop where all four feet leave the ground not once but twice in every single stride. At full sprint, greyhounds spend more than 75% of their time completely airborne. A cardiovascular system carrying nearly double the red blood cells of any other breed. A spine that compresses and explodes like a coiled spring covering over 5.5 metres of ground per stride.

First time greyhound owner? Read this before you do anything else. 👇

Lesson 1 — They are not being lazy.

Your greyhound will sleep between 16 and 18 hours every single day. Their deep sleep cycle lasts just 20 minutes — meaning they wake up approximately 24 times overnight and fall straight back to sleep. This is not a personality quirk. This is biology. This is what their body requires to function. Let them sleep. 🖤

Lesson 2 — They feel absolutely everything.

Science ranks them among the least aggressive dog breeds on earth. But they are also among the most emotionally sensitive. Loud environments, harsh handling, sudden change and disrupted routine cause genuine anxiety in a greyhound. Calm is not optional. Patience is not optional. The way you speak to them and the environment you create for them matters more than most first time owners realise.

Lesson 3 — The soft bed is not a luxury. It is a necessity.

Near zero body fat. A thin single layer coat. Bones that sit directly beneath the skin at every pressure point. Without proper cushioning your greyhound is resting bone on hard surface every time they lie down. A premium plush bed and a warm coat in cold weather are not spoiling them. They are keeping them healthy and comfortable. 🖤
