How Dehydration Affects You
With the weather starting to warm up, now is a good time to remind everyone to stay hydrated.
Water makes up about 65% of human body weight. Water can help transport oxygen and nutrients, and also help remove wastes from the body. Losing 1-2% of this water mass in your body can have a negative impact on your body. You are more likely to become dehydrated during warmer weather and while being active. Being dehydrated can cause an increase in headaches, fatigue, dizziness, distance judgment and anxiety, and a decrease in short-term memory, speed, concentration, mood, and sports performance. Drinking water is the best way to prevent and treat dehydration. You can help prevent dehydration by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, and before and during your exercises. Once you have finished exercising, drinking water and drinks with electrolytes until your thirst is quenched can help replenish your body and prevent dehydration. Many recent studies have found that drinking 8 250mls of water 8 times a day has discovered this method not very effective, and that the best way to tell if you are dehydrated is if you’re thirsty. So if your mouth is feeling a little dry drink some water so that you can keep your body healthy.
