On 8 July 1862, nineteen yachtsmen met in the office of the merchant, the Honourable William Walker, in the Exchange Building and subscribed to a resolution. "We the undersigned yacht owners, hereby constitute ourselves into a club to be termed the Australian Yacht Squadron". The countdown is on! ⛵️

The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron team, one of two Australian teams competing in the inaugural New York Yacht Club Women’s International Championship, are heading into the final weeks of preparation before travelling to Newport, Rhode Island.

Taking place from 12–19 September 2026 at Harbour Court, the Championship, hosted by , will bring together teams from around the world to compete in the Club’s fleet of 20 IC37s - a powerful, sporty 37-foot keelboat designed to reward cohesive crew work, athleticism and teamwork.

With six days of practice followed by five days of racing, it promises to be an exciting fortnight of high-level international competition.
