Is Immortal Pressure the key for Newcastle winning a grand final anytime soon?
Newcastle rugby league legend Andrew Johns has turned up the pressure on a particular player as the Knights gear up for a significant roster shake-up. Reports suggest that the Hunter club has granted several players permission to seek opportunities elsewhere in a bid to revitalize the team and aim for a premiership win after a two-decade drought. Powerful prop Daniel Saifiti has confirmed discussions with the Dolphins, while ho**er Jayden Brailey, experienced center Dane Gagai, and forward Leo Thompson are all rumored to be considering moves. Together, these players account for over $2 million in annual earnings, and the club seems keen on freeing up salary cap space to make strategic moves in the player market. Johns, a two-time premiership winner, acknowledges the need for fresh talent but specifically highlights the importance of injecting pace from the dummy half position. He emphasized the necessity for a dynamic and speedy player in that role to bolster the team's performance.
Brailey, a marquee signing for the Knights four years back, has faced significant challenges during his time at the club due to serious injuries, impacting his form this season. Successful rugby league teams often feature agile and clever ho**ers who can exploit tired defenses late in matches, a tactic exemplified by teams like the Storm with players such as Brandon Smith and Harry Grant. However, Newcastle has struggled to create attacking flair this season, with criticism directed towards the underperforming halves. The absence of a playmaker to spark creativity and exploit opportunities from the dummy half position has been notably lacking in the Knights' gameplay, a deficiency that Johns believes needs addressing to enhance the team's competitiveness.
