The Channel-billed Cuckoo and Eastern Koel have returned to the Sutherland Shire after their migration from the north—a sure sign that the warmer weather has arrived.

The Koel’s loud, repetitive call can continue throughout the day and drive some people a little cuckoo—but it’s still one of the unmistakable sounds of spring and summer in Sydney! 🌿☀️

Australia’s most recognisable reptiles—the blue-tongue lizard! 🦎💙

When it feels threatened, it opens its mouth wide and flashes that brilliant blue tongue to frighten away predators. Despite this fierce-looking display, blue-tongues are generally shy and harmless. They’re also wonderful garden visitors, feeding on snails, slugs, insects and other small creatures. A remarkable little Aussie survivor showing plenty of attitude!
