🐨 A Special Encounter in the Shire

I was lucky enough to spot this beautiful koala recently. I won’t be sharing the exact location for obvious reasons — sometimes the best way to appreciate our wildlife is to simply enjoy the encounter and leave them undisturbed.

A wonderful reminder of just how lucky we are to share our Australian bush with animals like this. 🇦🇺🐨🌿

🐨 A Special Encounter in the Wild

What a privilege to come across this beautiful koala living wild in the Sutherland Shire. There’s something very special about seeing one of Australia’s most iconic animals exactly where it belongs

I won’t be sharing the exact location, for obvious reasons.

A wonderful reminder that we still have some amazing wildlife living right alongside us. 🌿🐨

Bandicoots are one of Australia’s fascinating little native marsupials. 🇦🇺🐾
Mostly active at night, they spend their time sniffing and digging through the ground looking for insects, grubs, fungi and other food — leaving behind those distinctive little cone-shaped holes.

One amazing fact is that bandicoots have one of the shortest pregnancies of any mammal — around just 12–14 days in some species! The tiny young then continue developing safely inside their mother’s pouch.

Small, shy and often unseen, they’re another unique part of Australia’s incredible wildlife. 🌿

Such an amazing experience diving with these beautiful Australian sea lions. 🦭💙

Sadly, they’re an endangered species found only in Australia, with estimates of around 10,000–15,000 animals.
My hope is that they’re spared from the spread of H5 bird flu, which authorities say poses a very high risk to Australian sea lions.

After being lucky enough to share the water with these playful and curious animals, it would be heartbreaking to see their numbers decline even further. Hopefully we can protect them for generations to come. 🇦🇺🦭

Always a great surprise seeing one of these amazing little Australians wandering through the bush. No hurry, no stress… and definitely no intention of moving aside for me!

Sometimes the best wildlife encounters are the ones you simply stumble across. 🌿🇦🇺

On some Australian golf courses, large mobs of kangaroos are a normal sight and often simply won’t move. So what’s the alternative? Move hundreds of kangaroos? Cull them? Close the golf course and hand the land back? None of those are simple or realistic solutions.

Yes, there is a risk a kangaroo could be struck by a golf ball and injured, and golfers should always take reasonable care. But that doesn’t mean every golfer playing around kangaroos is deliberately putting them in danger.

Sometimes there isn’t a perfect solution. Respect the wildlife, take sensible precautions, and accept that in Australia there are places where humans and kangaroos simply have to share the space.

I think this is simply one of those situations where people and wildlife have to coexist.
