Our Cadet Aussie Athletes have made a strong start to Day 3 of the Cadet, Junior & U21 World Championships in Poland!! 🇵🇱

Rebecca Wibowo - Cadet Female Kata
✅ Ro64 vs KAZ | 5 🇦🇺 : 🇰🇿 0
✅ Ro32 vs KSA | 4 🇦🇺 : 🇸🇦 1
❌ Ro16 vs EGY | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇪🇬 5
❌ Rep1 vs FRA | 2 🇦🇺 : 🇫🇷 3
Rebecca narrowly misses out on a chance for bronze! She was on fire today and flew through the first two rounds only to miss out against the eventual finalist from Egypt. In her repercharge, it could not have been closer against a strong opponent from France. Only one flag was the difference and France breezed through her next match 5-0 to get a spot in the bronze final. So close for Rebecca and she should be incredibly proud as we are 💛💚

Ryutaro Ito - Cadet Male Kata
❌ Ro64 vs TPE | 0 🇦🇺 : [TPE] 5
A great performance of Suparinpei was not enough for our Cadet Male Kata representative, Ryutaro, to get past his first round opponent. Despite the early exit, it is clear he belongs at this stage and there is sure to be much international success in his future. Thank you for representing us Ryutaro 💛💚

🇦🇺 DAY 2 | JUNIOR RECAP

A look back at some highlights from our Junior athletes at the World Championships in Bielsko-Biała, Poland 🇵🇱

Competing on the world stage is no easy task. The depth of talent at this level is extraordinary, and every match is challenging for even the best athletes in the world.

While today brought some difficult results, there were plenty of moments that demonstrated just how capable our Aussie athletes are. We can't expect every result to go our way, but when we perform at our best, we have what it takes to challenge and beat the world's best.

Every victory and every defeat is an opportunity to learn and grow. These experiences are invaluable, and will only contribute to the development of our athletes as they continue their journeys.

Congratulations to every Australian who stepped onto the tatami today. Regardless of the result, you represented your country with courage and we couldn't be prouder 💚💛

Kumite - Day 2 - Part 2

More standout performances from our Aussies as we close out Day 2 of the 14th Karate World Championships in Poland 🇵🇱

Lucy Maggio - Junior Female Kumite -59kg
✅ Ro64 vs ECU | 2 🇦🇺 : 🇪🇨 0
✅ Ro32 vs ENG | 3 🇦🇺 : 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 0
❌ Ro16 vs COL | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇨🇴 7
Lucy Maggio was on fire today!! Going flawless in her first two matches, she picked apart her opponents and reached the round of 16 against Colombia. Unfortunately, two ippons went her peer's way and Lucy was not able to claw it back. The Colombian went on to the Semin-Final but was unable to secure the repecharge for our Aussie. A great run today and incredible signs of a successful future - Well done Lucy 💛💚

Seth Puddy - Junior Male Kumite -76kg
✅ Ro64 vs BEN | 1 🇦🇺 : 🇧🇯 1
❌ Ro32 vs CYP | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇨🇾 1
It's not over until it's over! Seth proved that today as he scored in the last minute of his first round to win by decision 4 flags to nil. In his next round, his Cypriot opponent got the better of him and went on to the semi final but unfortunately lost, taking away Seth's repecharge. Fighting until the last second is a key value we hold as Australians and Seth did us proud today showing that 💛💚

Lois Lidgett - Junior Female Kumite -66kg
❌ Ro64 vs CAN | 6 🇦🇺 : 🇨🇦 7
Lois came out the gate fierce securing two insane ippons within the first 30 seconds of the match!! Her opponent did answer with two and although Lois got payback with a hard gyaku zuki to the chin of her Canadian rival, it wasn't to be. Fighting spirit is always alive in our Aussie representative and we look forward to the next time she can represent our country 💛💚

Jorge Martin-Teramoto - Junior Male Kumite +76kg
❌ Ro64 vs QAT | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇶🇦 3
Up against a huge 6'7" opponent from Qatar could not even shake Jorge's confidence and aggression today. Although he wasn't able get the better this time, his fearlessness is a clear sign that no match is too much for our Aussie. He did us proud today and he will play a huge role in the future of Australian karate 💛💚

Kumite - Day 2 - Part 1

Our Junior Kumite athletes are fighting for every inch out here in Poland 🇵🇱
Although things aren't going our way, there have been some incredible moments our whole nation can be proud of 🇦🇺

Liam Johnson - Junior Male Kumite -61kg
✅ Ro64 vs ENG | 4 🇦🇺 : 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 0
❌ Ro32 vs CHN | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇨🇳 1
Liam was on fire throwing his first round opponent around as if he was nothing to take a convincing win against England. His second match was always going to be a battle and despite almost clawing it back, he wasn't able to overcome his Chinese rival. Fighting with passion we love to see, Liam proved he more than belongs on this stage 💛💚

Lucy Choi-Lawrence - Junior Female Kumite -53kg
❌ Ro32 vs COL | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇨🇴 2
Despite dominating the pressure throughout the match, Lucy was not able to convince the judges she was the better athlete today. She always fights with that calm sense of power but sometimes it just doesn't go your way. Not the result she was after but she always represents her country incredibly 💛💚

Harley Wilkinson - Junior Male Kumite -55kg
❌ Ro64 vs TUR | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇹🇷 2
A very tough match for Harley's debut on the world stage but the experience is invaluable. Despite being a hard target to hit, our aussie wasn't able to find his distance and his world's run ends here. A privilege still, for him to wear our colours 💛💚

Lily Heran - Junior Female Kumite -48kg
❌ Ro64 vs AZE | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇦🇿 3
Lily fought with so much heart throughout her first and final round against Azerbaijan, but it wasn't enough to progress deeper into the division. This is only Lily's first World Championships appearance and she will no doubt come back stronger in the U21 divisions next time. Proud 💛💚

Nathaniel Cowey - Junior Male Kumite -68kg
❌ Ro64 vs LUX | 1 🇦🇺 : 🇱🇺 2
Nathaniel started his match calm & collected and surprised his opponent with a perfectly timed punch to the body, earning him the senshu advantage. His opponent came back fighting though, and managed to get the better of our Aussie. Nathaniel walked off immediately looking to how he can improve for next time and this is what will take him far in the future 💛💚

15/10/2026

A tough start to Day 2 of the 14th Karate World Championships for our Junior Kata representatives 🇦🇺

Erica Lo - Junior Female Kata
❌ Ro64 vs SVK | 0 🇦🇺 : 🇸🇰 5
Unfortunately, Erica's run came to an end in the opening round against Slovakia. While not the result she had hoped for, representing Australia amongst the world's best is an achievement in itself. Plenty more opportunities ahead 💛💚

Hayden Pengiran Maru - Junior Male Kata
✅ Ro64 vs MNE | 4 🇦🇺 : 🇲🇪 1
❌ Ro32 vs SVK | 2 🇦🇺 : 🇸🇰 3
Hayden fought his way into the second round, where he narrowly fell short against Slovakia in a closely contested 3–2 decision. A tough result, but he wore our badge with pride and honour 💛💚

🇦🇺 DAY 1 | U21 RECAP

A look back at some highlights of our Under 21 athletes at the World Championships in Bielsko-Biała, Poland 🇵🇱

Every Australian who stepped onto the tatami today represented their country with pride and demonstrated that they belong amongst the best in the world.

We witnessed some outstanding performances today, and while some results weren't what our athletes had hoped for, there is no doubt that given we show our best karate, we have what it takes to beat anyone 💪

For those who fell short of their goals, today's results don't define what lies ahead. You are still at the beginning of your international careers, and with many opportunities to come, this is just one chapter in a much longer journey.

Congratulations to every athlete who represented Australia today. You have plenty to be proud of. 💚💛
