Getting closer to a finish for the hand-pieced version of this ‘tumbling TAW’ quilt - next step is to square up.
I also started an epp version with smaller diamonds, but haven’t progressed much with that one as I’ve started something else instead!!
Will aim to finish the hand pieced version and give you all the tips and tricks in the pattern release later this week!

Finished all the appliqué and piecing on my ‘Linen and Liberty’ quilt! 💃🏻💃🏻
I’ll be finishing the pattern and uploading it to my website by the end of the week. There’s an optional “van dyke” or “envelope” edging to add before final photos are taken later this week - and I might even give it a press although I do love the crushy linen look!! 😉
And there are some simple Mylar templates being produced by the very clever Plexi Notions

You know you’re in Goondiwindi when there’s a cotton bale used as a doorstop !!
I made some enquiries about carding my own cotton for quilt batting - but the carding combs are only 4” x 9” and you’d have to make about 200 batts this size to cover the surface needed for a double bed quilt. That’s the way they did it way back and it would be interesting to try! You’d get a gorgeous thin batt with no scrim.
Cotton fibres are finer and shorter than wool fibres so you’d need a special cotton carder with a higher needle count than the one used for wool carding. Has anyone ever tried cotton carding?

Working on “Cottage Garden” quilt - another round to go before I square up, but you get the picture so I might put the pattern up when I’m back home next week. A choice of diamond sizes and methods of piecing: epp or hand piecing - the choice is yours!

Putting the final borders on “Linen and Liberty” quilt this week. A few more stitches to add before I can photograph for the pattern release in a couple of weeks. Where to start at the Sydney Quilt Show!! This year’s quilts seem to be more beautiful than ever!! There’s lots of hand piecing, hand appliqué and hand quilting and a definite return to more traditional quilts and methods. Did anyone else notice this trend?
A fabulous show - this is just the tip of the iceberg and my top picks!!

Looking forward to the Sydney quilt show next week where I’ll be in residence each afternoon to hang out with fellow quilters! I have entered 2 quilts in the exhibition - “1830s Longcloth quilt” and “Mary Rawlinson quilt” but I am also honoured to be one of the guest exhibitors with another 14 quilts from my collection on display. Some I made nearly 40 years ago! All are humble quilts, made for the love of the craft.
Come and say hello!!
Lorraine Lorraine Patchwork Plus will have copies of “The Charm of Quilts” book 4 available during the show and I can sign it!

Finished in the nick of time for our little man’s birthday in a few days! A quilt for a 4th generation ‘frenchie’ incorporating clothing memories from great-grandparents, great aunts, grandparents, mother and friends! All the bright colours of traditional Provençal fabrics and hand quilted.
