Boxing, kickboxing, and Taekwondo are my favourite ways to improve my cardio fitness, mainly because it doesn't feel like cardio!

I've put together a program that covers all the equipment that you'd find in a typical gym, and some great exercises to get the most out of them.
Both the cables and landmines can be used as load for standard functional exercise movement, but where they really shine is when used for dynamic stabilisation exercises. Because you have a fixed anchor point you can use as a lever (landmine) or pulley (cables), you can move your body in different planes of motion that you might not with machines, dumbbells or barbells. This makes it perfect for athletic performance, injury prevention, and creating a strong core.

Have you used kettlebells before? For more than just swings I mean...
They are one of the best functional training equipment pieces going around. You can build strength using them as weights to add load to usual exercises like squats, lunges, rows, and presses. They can be used to develop power through dynamic actions like the swings and snatches. They are perfect for coordination and mobility with windmills and Turkish get-ups. I could go on!

What if I told you that you already have access to one of the best piece of workout equipment going around?
Using your body to create load is an effective and convenient way to exercise wherever and whenever you want. The reason I focus on this next for clients is that it requires a bit more coordination and control than the gym machines. Exercises like squats, pushups, lunges, and planks use multiple muscle groups and joints and stabilisation of the core. The TRX is an effective way to add pulling exercises, as well as a great way to both regress (make easier) and progress (make harder) bodyweight exercises.

I like to start clients on the machines as they are relatively simple to use and easy and safe to increase the weight as you inevitably get stronger! It's a great way to get a feel for the proper range of motion of each exercise and feel the right muscles working.
