Sydney Uni Water Polo is pleased to announce Patrick Northam as Assistant Men’s Senior Coach for the 2026 / 2027 Season.

Patrick brings extensive experience across playing, coaching and athlete development, with a strong understanding of the pathway from junior water polo through to senior competition.
A lifelong Cronulla water polo player, Patrick first represented the club at 14 years of age and played goalkeeper throughout his playing career, including numerous years as part of their AWL program. He later transitioned into coaching, taking charge of Cronulla’s Women’s AWL team as Head Coach and guiding the team to the Grand Final in his first season.

Patrick’s representative coaching career has included roles across the NSW boys’ and girls’ pathways. In 2021, he was appointed Head Coach of the NSW U15 Boys Blues, leading the team to a gold medal. He returned in 2022 as Assistant Coach to Scott Nicholson, again helping the team claim gold.

He continued through the NSW pathway as Head Coach of the U17 Boys Waratahs in 2023, before serving as Assistant Coach of the U19 Boys in 2024. In 2025 and 2026, Patrick moved into the girls’ pathway as Assistant Coach of the NSW U17 Girls, helping the team to a silver medal in 2025.

Across these roles, Patrick has worked with athletes at different stages of their development and alongside coaches at the highest levels of the sport, building valuable experience in player development, team preparation and high-performance environments.

Patrick now joins the Sydney Uni Men’s Senior coaching group where he will assist Head Coach Slobodan Nikić across the senior program, including as Head Coach of the Sydney Uni Lions U18 team. Patrick is looking forward to working with a talented group of players and contributing to their continued development and success.

2026 WATERPOLOOZA 💛💙

Last weekend, our U12s headed to Canberra to kick off their summer season at the 2026 CWPA KAP7 Waterpolooza! 🦁🤽‍♂️

Three Sydney Uni Lions teams travelled to compete, putting their skills to the test against teams from across the region and enjoying a fantastic weekend of water polo, competition and team camaraderie.

And the results were something to be proud of:

🏆 W12 — 1st Place
🥈 M12 Blue — 2nd Place
🎖️ M12 Gold — 6th Place

A huge congratulations to all our players for the way they represented Sydney Uni both in and out of the pool. For some of our Lions, it was their first ever away tournament — a fantastic opportunity to experience travelling with teammates, playing new opposition and being part of the wider water polo community.

A brilliant start to the summer season, with plenty more to come! 💙💛

Well done, Lions! 🦁👏

A big thank you to Canberra Water Polo Academy for organising and hosting a fantastic tournament, and to Anastasia Kachalkova for capturing these lovely images of our Lions throughout the weekend. 📸💙💛
