JPGavan Cricket Australia At the age of 16, I founded JPGavan Cricket in 2012, driven by a passion for the game. As your bat maker, my aim is simple: to help you score more runs.

Over the years, we've catered to cricketers of all levels, from aspiring juniors to seasoned international stars. As both a cricketer and a craftsman, my mission is clear: to provide cricketers with the equipment they truly need and deserve. For over a decade, I've been personally handcrafting cricket bats right here in Sydney, Australia. Now, I offer you the opportunity to order your own custom bat online or visit our workshop to witness its creation firsthand. They picked cleft #371 and asked for a light pick up. Short handle, mid-high middle, semi concaved profile, round toe and a round handle, shaped by hand at JPG HQ in Sydney. It's off to the Adelaide Hills.

If a handle is too oval, the edges can dig into your palm. In this session we talked it through and rounded it off slightly, keeping it a bit thicker so it sits right in the hand.

Swing it. If you feel resistance, it's too heavy. If it swings comfortably, it's right.

In a session at JPG HQ you pick your bat up while it's being shaped, and we take weight off until it swings the way you want. Watch your bat being made and take it home the same day.

A laminated bat is a blade made from more than one piece of wood bonded together. The MCC calls them Type D bats. You might also hear double cleft or triple cleft.

The Laws changed on 1 October 2026. Laminated bats are now legal in open age recreational cricket, with up to three pieces of wood in the blade. The pros still can’t use them.

Our first laminated bat launches in December, made in our Sydney workshop. VIP members get first access.
