Every coach makes mistakes when they start, tyhe ones who improve fastest are the ones who spot them early!

Our educators see the same five mistakes again and again: overcomplicating programs, coaching for themselves instead of the client, talking too much, stepping outside their scope, and treating the certificate as the finish line...

None of them are a sign you’re a bad coach. They’re a sign you’re new.
Pick the one that resonated, and fix it this week!

Hot take: a lot of the fitness advice you see online has never been properly tested.

It's not always wrong, it's just popular. And popular is a different thing from proven and evidence-based.

Likes tell you what's engaging, a transformation photo tells you what happened to one person, with a lot of other things going on at the same time. "It worked for me" is only one data point.

Evidence based coaching starts with asking what a claim is actually based on, being able to check and understand the facts and educate clients with evidence-backed sources!

Simple, consistent and sustainable, beats complicated.

Most coaches don't have time to read the research, that's how outdated advice survives for years.

Three studies worth knowing right now: the ACSM's first resistance training update in 17 years, a 30 year study on how much strength training is linked to a longer life, and a trial showing a once a week session can match three for fat loss and fitness in the right population.

The message underneath all three is the same. Consistency beats complexity.

Which one surprised you? Tell us below.

Which step are you at? Tell us in the comments!

Getting your Cert IV proves you can coach, but it doesn't make you the coach people drive across town for, or refer to everyone they know, with raving reviews!

Most trainers stop at step one and wonder why they sound like every other trainer in the area. The ones who keep building, pick something specific, go deep on it, and keep studying will continue to level up as a coach.

Specialising is how clients start asking for you by name. Staying curious is how you keep earning their trust.

Qualified is a starting line. The next step is finding your strengths, your niche and developing your business skills and people skills while you continue to learn.

Carbs make you fat.

Small meals fire up your metabolism.

Protein wrecks your kidneys...
..All three sound reasonable. None of them, are facts.

Correcting a myth and being able to guide your client in the right direction with evidence based knowledge is part of the job for any coach. Learn to become an industry leader and help your clients bust the myths!

Clients repeat what we tell them, if our language is full of "toning," "muscle confusion," and "earning" food, that's what they'll carry with them.

Evidence-based coaching isn't only what's in your programs, it's how you explain them and ensure you are educating your client for long term success.

Swap the vague phrase for the accurate one, and you benefit your client long-term with knowledge and understanding.

If you can’t show where your client’s started, you can’t show how far they’ve come...

Most coaches think they know how to assess and track progress, but they’re missing important steps!

A friendly first session where you ask about goals, watch a few squats and say “sounds good, let’s get started” feels like an assessment. But...it’s a guess without a system to work from moving forward.

A real assessment gives you things you can actually use.

How the client moves before you add load in an exercise.
What their history says about what to avoid.
A starting point you can measure against in six weeks, so progress is something you can show and not just something you are guestimating.

This also protects your client. Every program is a bet on what their body can handle, an assessment is how you ensure you’re pushing intensity and progress without over-training or risking injury.

Look at your last three new clients. Could you show exactly where each one started, how they’ve progressed and where they are headed? Let us know in the comments how you assess your client’s sessions from day 1!

You may not consider this in your qualification syllabus and learning but, every client notices within the first five minutes if a trainer is present or not...

The coach who checks their phone between sets, watches the clock, or asks the same questions twice, sends that client a message without saying a word... you're one of many.

The coach who greets them by name, asks about the thing they mentioned last week, and watches every rep with detailed feedback and support, sends the opposite message! I am here, with you and care about your progress.

You can have the best program in the world and lose a client to a coach who simply paid more attention. Attention is the part of coaching you control completely, and it costs nothing!

How do you bring presence into a session or want to see it more from trainers?
