Waratah 2025 - a year of pivots, budget worries, new people - and weather (not unusual for Waratah).
Firstly- thanks to the wonderful sponsors who continually support Waratah. And who, when asked, dug even deeper.
Secondly thanks to the Crew! Led by Anderson Lima Ring 1 (in case you didn’t notice) Ed McNair in Ring 2 and Mark Atkins in Ring 3 (it’s own world - but what a wonderful world it was).
Stewards - ably led by Jan Golding.
Judges - silently led by Anne Garner.
Ring Crew - Henry & all the boys, polite & attentive - and tuned into the sound of Kaz & the food buggy!
Kaz & Bec - over & beyond …
Riders - no show without you, but oh dear in Ring 2 you can be slow.
Karinda - no words for the extra lengths you go to.
Some huge highs this year, 25 starters in the WC for starters. A great win by Sam Overton riding Oaks Cassanova from a large & accomplished field.
A ribbon for Luce in Emah’s Choice - fabulous, classy horses in the Futurity, growing numbers in the YR class. The Trans Tasman Teams - even though we had to abandon Thursday night’s class - both the Seniors & YR were great competitions - onwards to Tamworth & Willinga Park.
Thanks to all who came, competed & watched. Im hoping to do most of it again in April !!
Gratefully yours - The OC.

The Riders’ Cup is always a highlight of our show. More than just another class, it has become a tradition that embodies the true spirit of the show – a class put on by the riders, for the riders. Sponsored and supported by the riders themselves, the event creates a sense of community and camaraderie. As such it is appropriate that we wrap up our 2025 coverage with the results from this class and what a class it was - literally not decided until the last fence!
This year, 34 combinations came forward for the 1.45m Riders’ Cup, run over two tough rounds. The format rewarded consistency and boldness, with just fractions of a second deciding the top placings in Round 2.
It was Paige McBain and Charlotta II who rose to the occasion, claiming victory with a clear and fast second round in 42.92 seconds. The chestnut mare sealed the win with style.
Close behind, New Zealand Young Rider Molly Moffatt with Lazarus GNZ stopped the clock at 43.07 seconds to take out second, while Sam Overton and Cha Cha Blue GHP slotted into third in 43.18 seconds after two quality rounds.
Adding to the excitement, experienced campaigners like Jamie Kermond and Yalambi’s Lord Byron and talents such as Tess McInerney on Quintation and Tallara Cameron with Cooley Down Under showed the depth of Australian Jumping, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats.
The Riders’ Cup once again proved why it holds such a special place in the Waratah program. It’s a class that celebrates horsemanship, rivalry, and above all – the riders themselves.

What a wonderful way to start the last day of Competition in Ring 2 for our World Cups Weekend. The Sienna Weir Amateur Series is a tribute to a lovely young show jumper who died tragically in 2023 doing what she absolutely loved most in life – jumping her horse. Sienna competed successfully as a Junior and a Young Rider and throughout her University time, competed successfully as an Amateur rider. Sienna’s parents and her coach Sharon Slater have initiated this Series for Amateur riders in Sienna’s memory.
Class 39a The Sienna Weir Memorial Amateur Series saw riders compete for the honour of this special award by presenting a clear round, followed by a jump off. Whilst the competition was fierce, it was Lori James who was presented as the winner with a double clear round.

Results | Divas Beverages Young Rider 1.35m
In a thrilling conclusion to the Young Rider competitions, 27 combinations took on the final course designed by Anderson De Moura Lima in Ring One.
Five pairings successfully navigated the challenging track clear and under time, with Alexander Jang & Parallax SCF first in line for the jump off. Clear jumping in a quick time of 41.77 seconds set the bar high, but Ella Hayward & Edena DP were able to stop the clock in an even speedier time of 40.29 seconds. Third out, Charlie Magnier & Notre Dame de Bourguignon flew across the finish line in a time of 39.22 seconds – fast enough to secure first place.
Congratulations Charlie and to all of our talented young riders for brilliant performances.
Special congratulations to Ruby Rao & Cibelle Van Het Hobos Z for achieving the highest aggregate pointscore across the Young Rider competitions held over both the CLK Equestrian Warm Up Weekend & World Cup Weekend.
Our sincere gratitude goes to Divas Beverages – your support of the Young Rider classes at Waratah has been nothing short of incredible.
