La Commémoration du Circuit des Ardennes poursuit son évolution en séduisant toujours plus de monde
Le Royal Automobile Club de Spa a une nouvelle fois planté ses tréteaux au cœur de Bastogne ce week-end, à l’occasion de la deuxième édition de la Commémoration du Circuit des Ardennes nouvelle mouture. Un événement dépassant largement le cadre d’une simple balade pour voitures anciennes, qui a ouvert de très alléchantes perspectives en vue du futur…
En reprenant les rênes de la Commémoration du Circuit des Ardennes afin de préserver et transmettre cette pièce maîtresse du patrimoine sportif automobile belge, voire international, le R.A.C. Spa cher à Pierre Delettre avait annoncé la couleur : pas question d’un simple copier/coller avec ce qui avait été réalisé par le passé. L’objectif a d’emblée été de faire évoluer cette manifestation devenue annuelle afin qu’elle devienne un événement magnifiant l’histoire de l’auto et de la moto et proposant, aussi bien aux participants qu’au public, une expérience mixant considérations mécaniques et moments de franche convivialité…
« Après la première édition en juillet 2025, nous étions conscients que certaines choses devaient bouger et qu’il y avait place pour de la nouveauté, commente Pierre Delettre. Les personnes présentes ce week-end ont pu se rendre compte d’une évolution flagrante à bien des niveaux. Ainsi, l’apéro dînatoire de samedi en début de soirée, en présence du chef Julien Lapraille, a parfaitement illustré la manière dont nous voulons faire évoluer le concept. Au bout de deux journées intenses, les retours sont aussi nombreux que positifs, et nous sommes déjà prêts à aborder la suite, avec une édition 2027 qui aura lieu le week-end des 7 et 8 août, et qui confirmera la tendance prise cette année… »
Avec un parcours de grande qualité signé Eric Chapa, un roadbook de qualité professionnelle, des haltes de Libramont et Habay-la-Neuve où le public était allègrement au rendez-vous, et souvent en voiture ancienne, une Place McAuliffe de Bastogne tout en prestige avec le Drivers’ Club, l’exposition FN organisée en collaboration avec Ars Mechanica, la présence de Krugger et son ‘work in progress’ sur base FN, des exposants aussi huppés que la Belgian Historic Vehicle Association (BEHVA), le Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps et son Musée, les Spa Six Hours et bien d’autres, l’exposition des véhicules – en plus d’autres venus s’ajouter à la fête pour l’occasion – sur la grand-rue de Bastogne le dimanche après-midi, le tout saupoudré de convivialité dans la présentation, cette édition 2026 a clairement plu, récompensant les efforts consentis par l’organisation.
« Rome ne s’est pas faite en un seul jour, et il en va de même pour notre projet Commémoration du Circuit des Ardennes, reprend Pierre Delettre. Avec l’équipe qui m’entoure, nous avons pris une direction, un cap, et nous comptons le maintenir. Certains prennent plaisir à comparer avec le passé, à pointer du doigt ce qui est différent, bref, à organiser à notre place. Oui, pour ce millésime 2026, il y avait moins de véhicules au départ, notamment pour ce qui est des voitures d’avant-guerre. Nous ne pouvons obliger personne à abonder dans notre sens, mais nous restons à l’écoute. En fait, le R.A.C. Spa est plus que jamais disposé à travailler avec ceux qui le souhaitent. Notre événement ne deviendra pas une réunion d’experts évoluant en vase clos, mais plutôt une manifestation tournée vers le grand public. Afin de partager une passion et transmettre un patrimoine. A l’image de notre Drivers’ Club, nous sommes ouverts, à la fois vers les gens et vers demain. Tout qui souhaite emprunter la même voie est le bienvenu… »
A l’issue de cette édition, le Royal Automobile Club de Spa tient à remercier la Ville de Bastogne, l’ensemble des acteurs qui ont contribué à la réussite de l’événement, Pascal Gérard et ses troupes de Libramont, la famille Thiry et les Maîtres du Grand Feu d’Habay-la-Neuve, ainsi que la Fabrique Nationale et la fondation Ars Mechanica.
L’année 2027 marquera le 125e anniversaire du Circuit des Ardennes. De quoi faire naître de nombreuses idées. Le R.A.C. Spa a d’ores et déjà décidé de confirmer la possibilité, pour ceux et celles qui le souhaitent, de ne prendre part qu’à un des deux jours de l’événement, tandis que la participation des propriétaires de voitures et motos anciennes à l’exposition du dimanche après-midi dans la grand-rue de Bastogne sera reconduite et largement anticipée.

De Herdenking van het Circuit des Ardennes blijft evolueren en weet steeds meer mensen te bekoren
De Royal Automobile Club de Spa sloeg dit weekend opnieuw zijn tenten op in het hart van Bastogne, ter gelegenheid van de tweede editie van de Herdenking van het Circuit des Ardennes, nieuwe stijl. Het evenement gaat inmiddels veel verder dan een eenvoudige rondrit voor oldtimers en heeft veelbelovende perspectieven geopend voor de toekomst…
Toen de R.A.C. Spa, de club die Pierre Delettre nauw aan het hart ligt, de organisatie van de Herdenking van het Circuit des Ardennes overnam om dit belangrijke stuk van het Belgische, en zelfs internationale, autosport-erfgoed te bewaren en door te geven, was de boodschap duidelijk: het was absoluut niet de bedoeling om simpelweg te kopiëren wat in het verleden was gerealiseerd. Vanaf het begin was het doel om dit inmiddels jaarlijkse evenement verder te ontwikkelen, zodat het zou uitgroeien tot een manifestatie die de geschiedenis van auto en motor in de kijker zet en zowel deelnemers als publiek een ervaring biedt waarin mechanische aspecten worden gecombineerd met momenten van oprechte gezelligheid.
"Na de eerste editie in juli 2025 waren we ons ervan bewust dat bepaalde zaken moesten veranderen en dat er ruimte was voor vernieuwing," vertelt Pierre Delettre. "De aanwezigen dit weekend hebben op heel wat vlakken een duidelijke evolutie kunnen vaststellen. Zo was de aperitiefmaaltijd van zaterdag aan het begin van de avond, in aanwezigheid van chef Julien Lapraille, een perfecte illustratie van de manier waarop wij het concept willen laten evolueren. Na twee intensieve dagen zijn de reacties zowel talrijk als positief. We zijn nu al klaar om verder te gaan, met een editie 2027 die zal plaatsvinden in het weekend van 7 en 8 augustus en die de richting, die we dit jaar zijn ingeslagen, verder zal bevestigen…"
Met een hoogwaardig parcours, uitgetekend door Eric Chapa, een roadbook van professionele kwaliteit, stopplaatsen in Libramont en Habay-la-Neuve waar het publiek ruimschoots aanwezig was, vaak zelfs met een oldtimer, en een prestigieus aangeklede Place McAuliffe in Bastogne met de Drivers’ Club, bood het evenement heel wat bijzonders. Daarbij kwamen nog de FN-tentoonstelling, georganiseerd in samenwerking met Ars Mechanica, de aanwezigheid van Krugger met zijn ‘work in progress’ op basis van een FN, en gerenommeerde exposanten zoals de Belgian Historic Vehicle Association (BEHVA), het Circuit van Spa-Francorchamps en zijn museum, de Spa Six Hours en vele anderen. Op zondagmiddag vervoegden bovendien nog andere voertuigen het feest, die speciaal voor de gelegenheid waren komen opdagen. Ze werden tentoongesteld in de hoofdstraat van Bastogne. Dit alles werd gepresenteerd met een flinke dosis gezelligheid. De editie van 2026 viel duidelijk in de smaak en vormde daarmee een beloning voor de inspanningen van de organisatie.
"Rome is niet in één dag gebouwd, en hetzelfde geldt voor ons project Herdenking van het Circuit des Ardennes," vervolgt Pierre Delettre. "Samen met het team om me heen hebben we een richting gekozen, een koers uitgezet, en die willen we aanhouden. Sommige mensen vinden het prettig om vergelijkingen met het verleden te maken, te wijzen op wat anders is, kortom, in onze plaats te organiseren. Ja, voor deze editie van 2026 waren er minder voertuigen aan de start, vooral wat de vooroorlogse auto's betreft. We kunnen niemand verplichten om onze visie te volgen, maar we blijven luisteren. In feite staat de R.A.C. Spa meer dan ooit open tot samenwerking, met iedereen die dat wenst. Ons evenement zal geen bijeenkomst worden van experts die in hun eigen besloten wereld opereren, maar eerder een manifestatie die zich richt op het grote publiek. Om zo een passie te delen en erfgoed door te geven. Net als onze Drivers’ Club staan we open voor zowel de mensen om ons heen als voor de toekomst. Iedereen die dezelfde weg wil inslaan, is welkom…"
Na afloop van deze editie wil de Royal Automobile Club de Spa de stad Bastogne bedanken, evenals alle betrokkenen die hebben bijgedragen aan het welslagen van het evenement: Pascal Gérard en zijn team uit Libramont, de familie Thiry en de Maîtres du Grand Feu van Habay-la-Neuve, evenals Fabrique Nationale en de stichting Ars Mechanica.
Het jaar 2027 markeert de 125ste verjaardag van het Circuit des Ardennes. Dat zal ongetwijfeld heel wat ideeën losmaken. De R.A.C. Spa heeft nu al beslist om ook in de toekomst de mogelijkheid te behouden voor deelnemers om, als zij dat wensen, slechts aan één van de twee evenementdagen deel te nemen. Ook de deelname van eigenaars van historische auto's en motoren aan de tentoonstelling op zondagmiddag in de hoofdstraat van Bastogne wordt voortgezet en zal ruim van tevoren worden aangekondigd.
De afspraak staat genoteerd…

The Ardennes Circuit Commemoration continues to grow, attracting ever-increasing numbers of people
The Royal Automobile Club of Spa once again set up its stalls in the heart of Bastogne this weekend for the second edition of the revamped Ardennes Circuit Commemoration. This event, which goes far beyond a simple classic car rally, has opened up some very exciting prospects for the future.
By taking the reins of the Ardennes Circuit Commemoration with the aim of preserving and passing on this cornerstone of Belgian and indeed international motorsport heritage, the R.A.C. Spa, so dear to Pierre Delettre, made its intentions clear: there was no question of simply copying what had been done in the past. The goal from the outset was to develop this now annual event, transforming it into a celebration of automotive and motorcycle history and offering both participants and the public an experience that combines mechanical heritage with moments of genuine conviviality.
“After the first edition in July 2025, we were aware that some things needed to change and that there was room for innovation,” commented Pierre Delettre. “Those present this weekend were able to witness a significant evolution on many levels. For example, the cocktail reception on Saturday evening, featuring chef Julien Lapraille, perfectly illustrated how we intend to develop the concept.
“After two intense days, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are already looking ahead to the next edition, which will take place on August 7th and 8th and will confirm the trend established this year.”
With a high-quality route designed by Eric Chapa, a professional-grade roadbook, stops in Libramont and Habay-la-Neuve where the public turned out enthusiastically, often in classic cars, a prestigious Place McAuliffe in Bastogne featuring the Drivers’ Club, the FN exhibition organised in collaboration with Ars Mechanica, the presence of Krugger and its ‘work in progress’ based on FN vehicles, and exhibitors as prestigious as the Belgian Historic Vehicle Association (BEHVA), the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit and its Museum, Spa Six Hours and many others, the 2026 edition clearly lived up to expectations.
The exhibition of vehicles on Bastogne’s main street on Sunday afternoon, together with the many additional vehicles that joined the festivities for the occasion, further contributed to the success of the event. With a friendly and welcoming atmosphere throughout the weekend, the 2026 edition was clearly a success, rewarding the organisers’ efforts.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the same is true of our Ardennes Circuit Commemoration project,” continued Pierre Delettre. “With my team, we have set a direction, a course, and we intend to stick to it. Some people enjoy comparing it with the past and pointing out what is different – in short, organising things for us. Yes, for this 2026 edition, there were fewer vehicles at the start, particularly pre-war cars. We cannot force anyone to agree with us, but we remain open to feedback.
“In fact, the R.A.C. Spa is more willing than ever to work with anyone who wants to contribute. Our event will not become a gathering of experts operating in isolation, but rather an event aimed at the general public. It is about sharing a passion and passing on a heritage. Like our Drivers’ Club, we are open to both people and the future. Anyone who wishes to follow the same path is welcome.”
At the end of this edition, the Royal Automobile Club of Spa wishes to thank the City of Bastogne, everyone who contributed to the success of the event, Pascal Gérard and his team from Libramont, the Thiry family and the Masters of the Grand Feu of Habay-la-Neuve, as well as Fabrique Nationale and the Ars Mechanica Foundation.
The year 2027 will mark the 125th anniversary of the Circuit des Ardennes – plenty of inspiration for many new ideas!
The R.A.C. Spa has already decided to maintain the option for those who wish to participate in only one of the two days of the event. The participation of classic car and motorcycle owners in the Sunday afternoon exhibition on Bastogne’s main street will also be maintained, with the arrangements announced well in advance.
