On Sunday, July 12, 2026, a group of anonymous mountaineers climbed the spires overlooking the Chamonix to hang a huge Palestinian flag between the Grand Charmoz and the Grรฉpon.
Suspended high on some of the most inaccessible ridges of the massif, at an altitude of 3,500 metres, and visible from across the town especially from the Place du Mont-Blanc, where the competition is taking place, the giant flag is intended as a symbol of hope, solidarity, resistance and freedom.
On July 23, World Climbingโs National Federations will vote on motions recommending the suspension of the Israeli, Russian and Belarusian federations from participation in World Climbingโs institutional activities.
The absence of a clear framework on this issue was one of the reasons we had to cancel the European Youth Series event planned last May at our venue Le camp avancรฉ.
We hope the issue will not once again be set aside, and that the World Climbing Executive Board will follow the recommendations resulting from the vote.
