2026 Summer Camp Staff Highlight: Meet Olakunle!

This summer, we’re celebrating the incredible staff who help make YMCA Summer Camp a fun, welcoming, and memorable experience for every camper.

Olakunle joined the YMCA Brandon team one year ago. He started as a Summer Day Camp Counsellor and then went on to work with the Before and After School program. He is excited to continue creating positive experiences for children as part of our Summer Day Camp team.

We asked Olakunle what he enjoys most about working at the YMCA:

“I am working at the YMCA this summer to be a part of a supportive team that aims at building friendship amongst children and supporting growth in a safe environment. Also to gain more experience on working with kids especially from diverse backgrounds.”

“The YMCA Summer Day Camp provides a safe and fun environment; with awesome day camp counsellors where children can thrive and shine their individual abilities through the various activities/programs outlined in the day camps. It’s particularly an awesome experience of shared learning in the simplest and sincere forms.”

Y West Early Learning Centre 50/50 Raffle!

Every ticket purchased helps us create enriching environments for the children in our care. Funds raised will support:

📚 Expanding our preschool library with cozy reading nooks, quality books, and child-friendly library furniture.
🧸 Adding high-quality educational toys and games that nurture children's and infants' developmental skills.
🌿 Replacing plastic toys and furniture with durable, natural wooden materials that inspire creativity and open-ended play.
🌞 Enhancing our outdoor play spaces to encourage exploration, movement, and discovery.
❤️ Continuing to provide welcoming, engaging learning environments where every child can flourish.

The fundraising is open till September 11th 2026, 12:15pm.

This summer, we’re celebrating the incredible staff who help make YMCA Summer Camp a fun, welcoming, and memorable experience for every camper.

Yvette has been part of the YMCA Brandon team for approximately 18 months. Throughout her time with the YMCA, she has supported youth programs, the front desk, digital media, and is currently a Day Camp Counsellor.

We asked Yvette what she enjoys most about working at the YMCA:

“I enjoy working at the YMCA this summer because it gives me the opportunity to interact with the kids.”

“I like the YMCA summer camp because I get to work with different camp counsellors and learn from their experiences. I also get to enjoy my summer while having fun with the kids, with whom there’s never a dull moment.”
