It felt like the Charlottetown Islanders ran out of time.

Despite buzzing the Eastern Express net for much of the game's final two minutes, the capital city club couldn't get the equalizer in a 5-4 loss Friday.

The Express now lead the best-of-five U15 P.E.I. Hockey League championship series 2-0 with Game 3 Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Pownal.

Luke Nishimura with two goals, Landan McGee-Gallant and Tucker Gates scored for the Islanders.

Patrick Gallant, playing for the first time since Game 1 of the playoffs due to a suspension, played a rock-solid game in nets for the Islanders. Charlottetown outshot the Express 36-35, but was outshot 18-13 after the first period.

The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period and 4-4 after the second. The game-winning goal came midway through the third.

Nishimura's first goal came after some deft stickhandling inside the Express zone while his second came after Gates found him all alone at the side of the net.

McGee-Gallant's goal was from a shot from the point while Gates kept the puck on a two-on-one and rifled a puck high blocker side.

POWNAL - The Eastern Express have drawn first blood in the U15 AAA hockey league championship series.

The Express, which hadn't lost a game in regulation time in Island league play all season, turned two Charlottetown Islanders turnovers and a power play goal into a 5-3 victory Wednesday in Game 1 of the beat-of-five series.

Game two goes Friday at 7 p.m. at UPEI's Bell Aliant Centre.

Luke Nishimura, David Baglole and Caden Biech scored the Islanders goals. Nishimura had two breakaway chances as well, but was denied by the Express goaltender, who also turned aside two point-blank chances off the stick of Jax Myers.

Luke Pollard tended Charlottetown's goal. The Express led 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 after the second. The teams had 40 shots each.
