Although Scott Shawyer won't be competing in this year's Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe he'll be following the race closely and sharing his insights, analysis and perspective over on our YouTube channel.

From the boats to the challenges and conditions that shape this iconic transatlantic race, Scott will be breaking it all down. The insights will also offer a glimpse into what's ahead for Scott and EMIRA IV as we prepare for the Royal Ocean Racing Club transatlantic in January.

BACK IN THE RACE 🇨🇦🌊

The next chapter starts here. We're looking ahead to the next race, the Royal Ocean Racing Club Transatlantic Race 2027, the next opportunity for Scott Shawyer and EMIRA IV to get back on the start line, teaming up again with Alan Roberts Racing

For Scott, this is about more than getting back on the start line - it's an opportunity to build valuable offshore experience, deepen his understanding of the boat and continue developing the knowledge gained this summer in Canada with the ultimate challenge of racing solo, non-stop, unassisted around the world. Progress means taking responsibility for the next step, learning from experience and being willing to start again when things don't go to plan.

Get to know EMIRA IV. A few things you might not know about our foiling IMOCA 👇

🌊 EMIRA IV was built in 2021 and won the 2023 Ocean Race

⚖️ The boat weighs 9.8 tonnes and is 18m long, with a mast height of 27m

🏀 There's enough sail area to cover an NBA basketball court

⛵️ EMIRA IV is named after Scott Shawyer's daughters, Emma and Keira

Update on the Route du Rhum 🌊

After months of preparation, Scott Shawyer won't be on the start line of this year's Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe

Getting EMIRA IV to Canada for a summer of training gave Scott valuable time to learn the boat and build the experience he needed to race offshore solo. But an unexpected issue with the boat's energy systems on the return delivery to Europe, followed by a very short window to qualify, made the final preparations more challenging. And on his recent attempt to qualify, Scott was quickly struck by seasickness. He had to weigh up the risks, and make the difficult decision to turn back.

Last month, Scott was sailing the Great Lakes in Canada. Now he's facing the wind and swell of the English Channel, taking EMIRA IV out solo in some pretty epic (and bumpy) conditions. Imagine sleeping in this tonight...
