Sending our love to Riceball’s friends and family today ❤️💚🖤
🍁 In Loving Memory of Riceball 🍁
It is with profoundly heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of a true giant in our community, our dear teammate, coach, mentor, and friend, Riceball. Following a brutal and courageous battle with cancer, Riceball chose to pass away peacefully and on his own terms through MAID.
To know Riceball was to love him. On the track, he brought an undeniable rhythm, style, and flow to everything he did. Off the track, he brought a warmth and positivity that lifted up every single room (and tournament) he stepped into. He was a fiercely loyal friend, a deeply trusted teammate, and a visionary coach who leaves behind a monumental legacy across the global roller derby community.
Riceball dedicated over 16 years of experience to the sport he loved. His commitment to our national program was nothing short of legendary, spanning four incredible stints with Team Canada Men's, and a brief but impactful stint with Team Canada Women's. Riceball geared up proudly as a skater three times before translating his passion into leadership, most recently serving as a coach for the 2026 MRDA Team in Orléans, France. His tactical mind and giving spirit also led him to serve as the Assistant Coach for Team Canada Women’s in 2025.
Whether he was helping a skater master their edges, teaching derby skaters how to rhythm dance, guiding a national team on the world stage, or working tirelessly behind the scenes to grow and support the community, Riceball did it all with an unshakeable smile and an open heart.
Rice gave so much of his life, his passion, and his soul to the sport and to all of the people in it. Anyone who has met Riceball will tell you what a calm, caring and accepting person he was, and surely what a positive impact he had on their lives.
While the grief of his absence is heavy, we take comfort in knowing he is finally at peace, and that his impact on Canadian and international roller derby will never be forgotten.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, his loved ones, and the countless skaters around the world whose lives were made brighter by his presence.
Rest in peace, Coach. We love you. 🖤❤️
