The Fort Frances Lakers have signed defenseman Cole Dowling. Dowling spent the past two seasons with the Kensington Wild U18AAA program.

"Cole's compete level was immediately evident while watching him play," said Lakers Head Coach/GM, Luke Judson.

"Cole plays fearlessly and defends hard. He plays simple, old school hockey that is sometimes lost in the modern game. Cole will be a great addition to a strong defensive group that will be hard to score against every night."

Welcome to our newest Lakers, William and Anthony Yerxa!

The Fort Frances Lakers have signed William Yerxa. The forward from Couchiching First Nation scored 80 points in 26 games for the International Falls Broncos last season, placing him in the top-10 scorers in Minnesota high school hockey.

"It's exciting to be able to continue adding elite local talent to our roster," said Lakers Head Coach/GM, Luke Judson. "W***y was one of the highest scoring players in Minnesota high school hockey last season. He has elite creativity and instincts that can't be taught. The Yerxas will be excellent ambassadors for the Lakers, Fort Frances, and Couchiching First Nation."

The Fort Frances Lakers are pleased to announce the signing of Anthony Yerxa for the 2026-27 season. The forward from Couchiching First Nation led all Minnesota high school players in scoring last season with 96 points in 24 games, and was named to the 2026 Strib Varsity All-Minnesota team.

"Anthony was the highest scoring player in Minnesota high school hockey last season," said Lakers Head Coach/GM, Luke Judson. "He has a rare combination of size, physicality and scoring ability that make him a threat every time he's on the ice. It's been a pleasure to watch him grow as a person and player, and I'm looking forward to seeing him play in front of his hometown fans."

Gunnar Simon will return to Fort Frances this fall. The forward from Monticello, MN will captain the Lakers for the 2026-27 season.

"Gunnar was an obvious choice to lead our group this season," said Lakers Head Coach/GM, Luke Judson. "He sets a great example with his preparation, attention to detail, and how he treats his teammates."

"The last two seasons, we leaned on him to be our most versatile player. Gunnar has played every position on forward and defense, played in every situation, and we are always able to rely on him to get the job done. I expect Gunnar to cap his junior career off with a statement and be an excellent representative of our team and community."
