“I don't have time to work out."
We hear this one almost as often as “CrossFit is too expensive.”
And we get it. Life is busy. Between work, kids, grandkids, caring for aging parents, appointments, household responsibilities and everything else, finding an hour for yourself can feel impossible. But here's something worth thinking about:
According to Canadian government data, adults spend an average of 3.5 hours a day on recreational screen time. That's almost 25 hours a week.
Now, we're not suggesting you give up Netflix, delete Facebook or stop watching funny dog videos. We enjoy a good scroll as much as anyone.
But somewhere between checking the weather for the fifth time, watching another reel and discovering what someone you went to high school with had for dinner, there might just be an hour you could spend on yourself.
The truth is, we're all busy, and we're all working with the same 24 hours in a day. We don't all have the same responsibilities or demands on our time, but most of us have a little room to reconsider our priorities.
What if we started treating our workouts like important appointments?
Appointments with ourselves that we don't cancel just because we're tired, busy or not particularly motivated that day. Because showing up when you don't feel like it might be one of the greatest acts of self-care there is.
Not because every workout needs to be amazing, but because every time you show up, you're investing in the person you'll be five, ten or twenty years from now.
The person who can still get down on the floor and back up. Carry their own groceries. Hike a trail. Play with their grandchildren. Travel, explore and enjoy life without their body constantly telling them what they can't do.
We spend a lot of time planning for our financial future. Maybe we should give our physical future the same consideration.
And here's the thing about CrossFit. You don't have to feel motivated when you walk through the door. You just have to walk through it. We'll take care of the workout, the coaching and the encouragement.
You can't save time for later in life, but you can invest some of it now to make those later years a whole lot better. Your future self is counting on you. In fact, your present self is counting on you- and all the people that depend on you too!
And trust us, they'll appreciate the hour you spent at the gym a whole lot more than that extra episode of whatever you were watching.
