VO2MAX HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE

The excitement will wear off.

A few weeks in, you might be sore, hungry, tired and wondering why you started in the first place.

That's when the real work starts.

Showing up when you don't feel like it, the same way you brush your teeth without debating it every morning.

All we ask is that you walk through the door, show up with intent, and give your best on that day. Do that, and the results take care of themselves. We've seen it time and time again.

It’s not about rushing into movements and adding weight.

First, we teach you how to move well. Then, we build strength and add load on top of that foundation.

Build the foundation. Then build on it.

Worried about moving the wrong way? Afraid you’re going to hurt yourself?

If you want to move well and reduce your risk of injury, here are two things to do:

1. BEGIN RESISTANCE TRAINING
Getting stronger gives your body more capacity to handle the demands you put on it.

2. SEEK GUIDANCE
Learn proper movement, understand how to train for your current ability, and progress from there.

12 years at VO2 Max.

Kim started with boot camps, moved into group classes, and 2.5 years ago made the switch to personal programming.

Her advice to her younger self?

Hire a personal trainer right away and learn how to move properly from the start.

The goal isn’t just to complete the workout. It’s to make the workout count.

In the 16 Week Program, Janine doesn’t just tell you what to do, she teaches you how to train.

That means understanding what the right weight should feel like, knowing when you’re not being challenged enough, and learning how to execute each movement properly.

If you finish your 12th rep and feel like you could’ve done another 10–12 reps, the weight isn’t challenging you enough. Put it back and choose a weight that demands more from you.

Then, before you start loading up, make sure you actually know how to perform the movement.

In this session, Janine walks the class through the dumbbell bench press, breaking down the setup and ex*****on before they get to work.

Train with purpose. Be coachable. Raise your standard.

What is ESSENCE in program design?

It’s the why behind the workout.

Every exercise, movement, rep range and intensity should have a purpose. The goal isn’t to throw random movements together and call it programming.

Good program design asks:

What are/is this individual's training history, current abilities, lifestyle, recovery, motivation, goals, etc.?

When you understand the essence of a program, you train with purpose.

With a single modality like running or biking, you can get very specific with things like movement economy and how efficiently someone can maintain a certain pace or power in that movement. In something like Hyrox or CrossFit, you’re constantly changing movements and often using a much larger amount of muscle mass at once, so different limitations can show up.

Someone could be really efficient on a bike but then struggle when you combine running, sled work and upper-body movements because now the demand on oxygen delivery and the working muscles is different.

Being fit in one modality doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have the same endurance when you combine multiple modalities.
