The weather may not always cooperate, but true sailors never back down.
SMSC’s Keelboat Racing Program (formerly known as the Senior Fleet) is series of competitive, yet friendly races. From June through August, we race every Wednesday evening. Then, in September, we switch over to Sunday afternoons for the autums races. Throughout the season there are special weekend races, wrapping up with the “Turkey Trot” held at the beginning of October.
Come out and enjoy an evening of racing!

Message from the Commodore:
What was Sail East at Bay Wind in 2026? It was another successful regatta. To quote our judges, Saturday delivered champagne sailing. Sunday was a bit more challenging, with racing delayed by an overnight weather system, and then fog, but in the end, we got 33 races off over six classes.
Who made Sail East at Bay Wind possible in 2026? It was Sail Canada and SMSC collaborating on organizing a feature event of the Nova Scotia dinghy sailing season. It was 135 keen sailors in 100 sailboats, 30 expert coaches and 65 dedicated volunteers, some from as far away as Ottawa and Montreal. It was presenting sponsors Shining Waters Marine and Subway, Silver Sponsor The Boat Shop, Bronze sponsor The Binnacle and Supporting Sponsor Eagle Beach Contractors. Please think of our sponsors when you need services.
I would also like to express appreciation to the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and Bedford Basin Yacht Club who loaned us motorboats essential to the delivery of regattas. Finally, special thanks to regatta co-chairs Nicole Daley and Chantal Pelham-Edwards for keeping us all going in the right direction!
One of last year’s sponsors, Covey Island Boatworks, left us an electric outboard motor for raffling. We ran the raffle in support of this year’s regatta and Ian Dawson is the lucky winner. To quote Ian, “That’s the best 20 bucks I have ever spent!”
And finally, as ever we had food left over, but this year it went to the Phoenix Youth Emergency Shelter. Thanks to Paula Minnikin, our Principal Race Officer, for doing the delivery.
