Hello Brooklyn Marina Members and Friends,

Where did August go? It seems like we missed a day—or maybe a whole week—somewhere along the way!

As we head into the final weekend of August, there's lots of news to share and plenty to celebrate at Brooklyn Marina.

🚣 What a Cardboard Boat Race!

Our 2026 Cardboard Boat Race was a great success!

A huge thank you to all of our members, volunteers, participants, entertainers and everyone who pitched in to make the day happen. It takes a lot of helping hands to put on an event like this, and once again our marina community came through.

We also had a great day for Brooklyn Marina merchandise. It was wonderful to see so many people sporting the BM logo!

⛵ Welcome LaHave River Yacht Club

It was a pleasure to welcome our friends from the LaHave River Yacht Club for the weekend.

They certainly brought the fleet! It was quite a sight to see our visitor dock and moorings full of boats.

We always enjoy their visits—and especially hearing the stories of their adventures on the water. They only encountered one little thunder shower on their way to Brooklyn, and thankfully the rain held off here until everyone was ready to hit the cots for the night!

Thank you for spending the weekend with us. We hope to see you back again soon.

👋 Last Week for Our Summer Students

This week marks the final week for our summer students.

Having their extra hands around the marina has been a real bonus this season. They've assisted with marina operations, events, grounds and the many day-to-day jobs that keep everything running.

Thank you for being part of our team this summer!

🍳 Galley Season Wrap-Up

Our regular Saturday dinners and Sunday breakfasts have now finished for the season.

A very BIG thank you to all of the volunteers who cooked, served, tended bar, washed dishes, set tables, cleaned up and stepped in wherever they were needed.

These meals don't happen without volunteers, and we truly appreciate everyone who helped make our galley season such a success.

But that doesn't necessarily mean the kitchen is closed until next summer!

Have an idea for September?

If any of our members would like to organize a pop-up dinner, social, music night or other event, we'd be happy to look at some possibilities for September.

Send us your ideas. There's still lots of good weather ahead!

🎶 This Saturday Night

We're not finished having fun yet!

Join us Saturday evening for a live performance featuring Nicole Nickerson (Whynot)!

Come down, relax, enjoy the waterfront and spend an evening with friends at Brooklyn Marina.

⚓ Brooklyn Marina Merchandise

Did you miss your chance to pick up some BM merchandise during the Cardboard Boat Race?

There's still time!

We have some items remaining in stock, and we'll be placing a special order for additional merchandise next week.

Brooklyn Marina gear also makes a great birthday or Christmas gift—and Christmas will be here before we know it!

🌅 Summer Isn't Over Yet!

Although our scheduled kitchen services and summer student season are winding down, Brooklyn Marina certainly isn't!

There is still lots of beautiful boating weather ahead and plenty of time to enjoy the docks, deck, clubhouse and waterfront.

Stay tuned for further updates, possible September pop-ups and other happenings around the marina.

Most importantly, thank you to our members, volunteers and supporters who have made the 2026 summer season such a memorable one.

See you at the Marina!

🏆🚣 AND THE WINNERS ARE… 🚣🏆

What a great group of racers we had for the 2026 Brooklyn Marina Cardboard Boat Races!

Twelve cardboard boats took to the water this year, with some impressive paddling, some very creative engineering — and just enough sinking to keep things interesting! 😂🌊

A BIG congratulations to our winners:

🏆 12 & UNDER

🥇 1st Place – Miranda Robart & Reylend Hiltz

🥈 2nd Place – Farley & Jasper Rebman-Gough

And a big cheer for Elliot Garber, who took to the water and gave us one of our memorable sinkings!

🏆 13–18 YEARS

🥇 1st Place – Penny Stanyer – Five Girls Baking

🥈 2nd Place – Kaylin Lavender & Abby

🥉 3rd Place – Reagan Shot & Isabelle Willson

And congratulations to John Lewis & Isac MacDonald, whose voyage earned them a very special distinction…

🚢 THE TITANIC PRIZE! 🏆🌊

🏆 19 & OVER

🥇 1st Place – Kate Shelton

🥈 2nd Place – Alex Gallagher

🥉 3rd Place – Dave

👏 And congratulations to Corinne Marsh & Maddox Marsh, who finished 4th.

🎨 BEST DESIGN AWARD

🏆 Robbie-Lynn, Michelle & Jennifer
Queens Adult Day and Respite Program

They arrived in character, looked fabulous and then proceeded to sink their creation with remarkable style and grace! 😂👏

❤️ And we have to give another special mention to Farley & Jasper.

These two little guys climbed into one VERY tiny cardboard boat and paddled their way to 2nd place in the 12 & Under category! They were certainly one of the crowd favourites of the day.

👏 Congratulations to every one of our 2026 participants!

Whether you crossed the finish line or went down with your cardboard ship, you made the day fun for everyone watching from shore.

Thank you for building, paddling, laughing and being such great sports.

📸 Here are some of our 2026 winners and racers!🏆

Start thinking about those boat designs for next year… 🚣📦

🚣📦 WHAT A CARDBOARD BOAT RACE DAY! 📦🚣

The 3rd Annual Brooklyn Marina Cardboard Boat Races are officially in the books — and what a day we had!

This year 12 boats took to the water and only 3 went down! Not bad at all for boats made out of cardboard! 😂👏

There were so many memorable moments.

❤️ Farley and Jasper stole a lot of hearts in their VERY tiny cardboard boat. These two little guys showed us that you don't need the biggest boat on the water to make a big impression!

😂 And then there was the crew from the Queens Home Support Respite Day Program — Robbie-Lynn, Michelle and Jennifer.

They didn't just build a boat. They came dressed for the occasion!

Their voyage may not have ended quite as planned, but they went down with style and grace — and took home the Best Design Award! 🏆

🍳 Five Girls Cooking, represented by Penny, also joined the fun. With our business entrants joining the age categories this year, Penny jumped right in and raced — and took 1st place in the 13–18 category!

Congratulations to ALL of our racers. Building a cardboard boat is one thing. Actually climbing into it and heading out on the water is another! 👏👏👏

A big thank you to Councillor Vicki Amirault, representing the Region of Queens Municipality, who joined us and said a few words during the afternoon.

⛵ Thank you to our friends from the LaHave River Yacht Club for making Brooklyn part of your race weekend.

🎶 Thank you to Nicole Whynot, Ellie & Matt Lewis, and Tristan & Greg Weare for providing the music throughout the day and evening.

🍽️ Thank you to Kendra, Carrie and our kitchen crew for a wonderful SOLD-OUT dinner.

👕 Our new Brooklyn Marina merchandise was a hit too — thank you to everyone who stopped by the merchandise table and supported the marina!

And then there are our VOLUNTEERS.

Setup, docks, safety boats, judging, BBQ, merchandise, bar, serving, dishes, cleanup, breakfast the next morning... it takes a tremendous number of people doing a lot of different jobs to put on a weekend like this.

Thank you. We simply couldn't do it without you. ❤️

And finally, thank you to everyone who came down to Brooklyn Marina to cheer, laugh, eat, listen to the music and enjoy our waterfront.

📸 We have LOTS of wonderful photos from the weekend, and we'll be sharing more — including our race winners!

For now, here are a few of the moments that made the 2026 Brooklyn Marina Cardboard Boat Races one to remember. https://photos.app.goo.gl/typqU1SRdvxkTe4i7

See you next year! 🚣📦⚓
