We built Mxfits because we wanted a place like this to exist.
A place where you could walk in without already knowing exactly where you belonged and still feel safe and welcome.
A place where being new wasn't something to apologize for.
A place where you could ask the question you were afraid was silly.
A place where you could try something, mess it up, laugh about it, and try again.
Where someone who wasn't sure they had a place in derby could find one.
A place where you could come to learn roller derby, but maybe leave having learned something about yourself.
That was the dream behind Mxfits. Camp & Clinic 2026 happened and for a weekend, we got to stand in the middle of that dream.
We had skaters come from leagues and communities stretching from Montreal to Sudbury to Buffalo and beyond. We had trainers from small local leagues sharing the track with people you've watched compete at Champs. We had experienced officials, coaches, skaters, trainers, volunteers, photographers, and sponsors all contributing something different to the same space.
And somehow, it all worked.
We watched skaters challenge themselves. We watched people try things they had never tried before. We watched officials share knowledge and discover new possibilities. We watched coaches and trainers pour their experience into people who were hungry to learn. We watched people who had arrived as strangers leave with new connections. And we watched people begin to figure out what might come next.
That is the part that gets us.
Because Mxfits was never supposed to be just another roller derby event. We built it because we know that sometimes the hardest part of trying something new isn't learning the skill.
It's believing that there is a place for you to try. It's having someone believe in you before you're quite ready to believe in yourself. It's finding a community that says, "Come on. Give it a shot. We'll figure it out together." We wanted to build that place.
And you made it real.
To our skaters: thank you for trusting us with your learning. Thank you for being brave enough to be beginners at something, even when you've been doing derby for years. Thank you for cheering for each other and making space for everyone to grow.
To our officials: thank you for showing up with curiosity and generosity. Thank you for sharing a part of derby that doesn't always get the spotlight and helping others discover that officiating can be its own incredible journey.
To our coaches: thank you for sharing your knowledge, your mistakes, your experience, and your enthusiasm. From small local leagues to some of the highest levels of competition in our sport, you brought different experiences and perspectives into the same room. You didn't just teach skills. You helped people see possibilities.
To our volunteers: thank you for helping make the weekend happen and for taking care of the little things that allowed everyone else to focus on learning and connecting.
And to our photographer, the incredible Brie Eloise, thank you for seeing the weekend through your lens and giving us memories of the people, the joy, the focus, and all the little moments we were too busy living to notice.
To our sponsors: thank you for believing that creating spaces like this matters. Your support helps us keep making room for people to learn, explore, and find their next step.
And to every person who walked into Camp & Clinic this year: **Thank you.**
Thank you for bringing your whole weird, wonderful, curious self into the room.
Thank you for making mistakes.
Thank you for asking questions.
Thank you for helping someone else.
Thank you for laughing.
Thank you for trying again.
Thank you for being exactly the kind of community we hoped Mxfits could become.
Because here's the thing we keep coming back to: We didn't build the magic. We built the space where the magic could happen.
You made the magic.
Every person who shared a skill. Every person who offered encouragement, tried something new, made someone else feel welcome. Every person who made a connection.
That is Mxfits Roller Derby.
And maybe that is what we are most proud of. Not that we hosted a camp. Not that we ran clinics. But that for one weekend, we got to create the kind of roller derby space we wished existed. A space where you don't have to arrive knowing what comes next -- you just have to be willing to find out.
So wherever your derby journey takes you from here, we hope you take a little piece of this weekend with you.
Maybe it's a new skill, a new friend, a new position, a new question. Maybe it's simply the knowledge that there is a place where you can show up, be curious, and figure things out.
We built Mxfits because we wanted that place to exist. Thank you for helping us prove that it can. We love what we're building with you.
