Hi everyone! Update on my New York City marathon fundraiser for Imerman Angels!

My last 2 fundraisers were charity yoga which raised $600 and my virtual garage sale which raised $200. Thank you so much to everyone who supported Imerman’s mission ❤️

My fundraising has obviously all been in Canadian funds, but sadly loses value when it gets converted to USD for the race. Honestly though we’ve raised a lot to support 2024 Team Imerman Angels !!! It works out to $3700 in CANADIAN funds!

That’s $2750 USD total so far and my goal is $3400 USD. ALMOST THERE!

When I started this I said I wanted to create 10 peer mentoring matches so no one goes through cancer alone. So far with your support, we have created 7 matches (almost 8!!) 😃 can we get to 10 matches in the next 30 days by my deadline? 🙌

Last fundraiser… another online bake sale /auction. 😊

I know it won’t necessarily be in time for Canadian Thanksgiving, but perhaps we can make the yummy Fall treats fill up that void between Thanksgiving 🥧 🍪 feast and Halloween 🎃 👻 candy heaven?

Just a reminder I’m taking all empties to LCBO! I can take pop cans too to return to grocery stores in Quebec.

If you donate your empties to me for my NYC marathon fundraising campaign, ALL FUNDS go towards creating peer mentoring matches through Imerman Angels so that no one has to go through cancer alone. Each mentor match costs $350 USD. I’ve created 4 matches already.

Could you please help me get to create 6 more matches? It goes a long way! If your empties are just going in recycling please consider directing them over here! 🙏 I’m happy to come pick them up!

I have a collaboration on Instagram with my friend Bee who is an amazing creator. Bee ❤️ has made me 4 awesome crocheted items for my NYC marathon charity fundraiser giveaway!

A reminder that I am raising funds for Imerman Angels an amazing cancer charity that creates peer “Angel” matches between cancer fighters and their caregivers with others who have experienced cancer before. This is important to me, because peer to peer support can really help fill an emotional void as people navigate through a cancer diagnosis.

I’m currently training for several upcoming triathlons, so my strength training is reflecting that. It’s not fancy, but it’s specific. Training consistently is probably the most important ingredient in getting where I want to go. The start line, uninjured, and the finish line feeling STRONG!

Workout frequency the most important factor in strength gains for women 02/01/2022

When programming for clients, even for myself, it’s so easy to get lost in the weeds sometimes around type of strength training protocol when the reality is, most people who come to a coach probably aren’t lifting frequently enough or on a consistent enough basis to see gains.

This study suggests that number of reps and sets, even load matters less. Lift WITH EFFORT AND INTENTION (emphasis mine!) 3x a week and you will see performance improvements (muscle mass and strength ^^) in 3.5 months.

So if you’re going back to the gym don’t worry too much about what you’re doing. Do SOMETHING of substance 3x a week and you will see the benefits! If you’re not sure exactly what that should be reach out! 😊

“Just keep swimming” ~ Dory

As a late onset adult swimmer, I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you’re swimming swimming swimming but going nowhere!

Working on my stroke and maybe swimming a bit less volume than everyone else has been worth so much more than swimming thousands of meters with crappy form.

Since I joined Julia Aimers] swim program, I’m not constantly injured and I’m slowly but surely becoming more efficient in the water. And that’s what I love about my coaches Julia and Maggie. They are patient and encouraging, but also firm. And they are fantastic problem solvers.

Swimming is my stress relief but also the space in my life where I get to maintain a beginner’s mindset, stay curious, and remain in a state of continued learning and growth. 💪 plus it translates over to running (!!) so well (my fitness gains).

We’ve got a few spots still available for Jan-March 2022 and the coach to athlete ratios are great with just 11 swimmers in the pool to one coach, plus the occasional private lesson with a separate coach.

If you want to work on technique, get great feedback and really improve your stroke while being challenged to increase your endurance and speed, then think about joining us in the pool!

Do the thing you fear the most, and the death of fear is certain ~ Mark Twain

Fear is not necessarily a bad thing. It alerts us to potential danger and helps us prepare for it.

Fear is protective.

Feeling afraid is natural and can be helpful.

Fear therefore serves an important purpose:
1️⃣ it keeps us out of harm’s way;
2️⃣ it signals there’s something of consequence at stake

If we use the power of 2️⃣👆to our advantage, it can help us develop more of a growth mindset and mastery based approach to life.

We get more or less capable based on prior experiences. When we prepare for and expose ourselves to difficult things, we will start to see them as challenges to be mastered rather than scary things to be avoided.

Exposure ➡️ Practice ➡️ Skills ➡️ Stress Reduction ➡️ Self-efficacy ➡️ Happiness

Overcoming fear is how we grow.

So how do we not give in to fear so that we can fully experience life?

⭐️ ACKNOWLEDGE IT. Name it and write it down. A lot of times fear comes from future thinking, and not knowing what’s going to happen. By naming it we take control.

⭐️ STAND UP TO FEAR. Understand that the excuses that prevent us from living the life we want are not US. That’s FEAR.

⭐️ FEEL IT and talk about it. But then ask yourself WHAT’S THE WORST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN?

⭐️ PREPARE. Identify what’s real vs imagined. Then make a plan to address what scares you.

⭐️ START SMALL and enlist trusted support.

⭐️ KEEP PASSING GO. Commit to continuously taking action.
