I've had so many people tell me they watch TV or they play games or scroll on their phone in order to wind down and rest. If there's one thing I've learned it's that there's a difference between the position of the body and the position of the mind.
If you've spent the day working and thinking and performing mentalprocessing, it may -feel- restful to sit and "turn your brain off" and watch something/scroll/game, but that does not mean that it's genuine rest.
Genuine rest requires stillness. Not just stillness of the body but trying to find and achieve stillness of the mind. 5 minutes of breath work does way more for rest than 2 hours of watching a movie or 10 minutes of scrolling. That's why once you start a game or doom scrolling it's difficult to stop because you're in searching mode. You're seeking something and if you're seeking you're not resting.
This isn't to say you should never scroll or play games or watch TV, but stop calling it something that it's not.

DM "START"
1. Same five lines in every conversation.
You're afraid to talk about anything real. You repeat you same talking points every conversation. You discuss shows, people and avoid depth
2. Same route every day. Bed, work, couch, bed.
You're on autopilot. You're not deciding on your pathing. You're running the script that was written.
3. Nothing starts with you. You only react to the player.
You wait for someone else to come up to you before a conversation begins. Nothing in your life is propelled by your actions.
4. When asked how you are, you say the same things as everyone else. "Tired," "you know how it is," "living the dream."
5. The scroll is your idle animation.
You're unable to be attentive to your surroundings. Always on your phone, updating your talking points and opinions on what others are telling you to believe.
If this sounds like you, it's not too late to unplug yourself and become the hero in your own life, rather than an NPC in someone else's.
As I was filming the clip for the video posted this morning, I got sucked back into an old habit. I've built up the discipline and internal strength to not let it pull me all the way in, but it still grabbed me...
What should've been 2-3 minutes of filming became a full round of play and then when I lost at the very end ... It tried to pull me in for more. I resisted and went back to what I needed to be doing.
Hobbies don't do that.
They don't argue with you when it's time to move on with your day.
