Very Special Announcement 🥋
Hi everyone,
I have some exciting news to share! Starting September 1st, we're opening up a new training space: Coquitlam Central Shotokan Karate.
Many of you know I've been quietly working on this for a while now, trying to find us some extra room to train — and I finally found a great spot! It's a yoga studio just behind Coquitlam Centre.
Location: 108-2922 Glen Drive, Coquitlam — inside Yoga Generation Studio (right across from Walmart).
The entrance is on the Pacific Street side. There's free parking in the lot for 1 hour (maybe 2 — still confirming this one!).
Training days & times: Tuesdays and Fridays, 8:15–9:15pm
• For September, Tuesdays are open to everyone.
• Fridays are reserved for our teammates training for the Shoto Cup Tournament in October.
• Once the tournament's done, Fridays will open up to everyone too.
Drop-in fee: $10 per person, $5 for each additional family member.
This space is meant for self-directed training — Kata, Kihon, and some Kumite, whether you want to work solo or with a group. If you're craving extra mat time or gearing up for a grading, this is a great chance to put in some focused work.
A few of our Instructor Training members will be around and always happy to lend a hand, and honestly, we've got quite a few Provincial and National champions among us too! Whether you're just looking to grow at your own pace or train toward something specific, you'll find good company here.
I'm really looking forward to seeing familiar faces there, this has been a long time coming, and I couldn't be more excited to keep training alongside all of you.
See you on the mats! 🥋

The results from 2026 ISKF Canada National Championship! Congratulations to all competitors!
The words from Sensei Marc:
Some thoughts for you.
- Your mind determines most of your reality.
- When you see hard challenge, thinking "I will step up here, I have to be at my best" is better for you than "oh no X is happening".
- This is true whatever the outcome!!!
- Why?: the best you can do is your best plus a bit more. The step up thought is the max way to do that. Biochemistry and psychology combine into a powerful reaction.
- The other thoughts inhibit you, they drop your function, weaken your chemistry and resolve.
- You need to develop a habit of stepping up into adversity, small ones and big ones.
- Training is an excellent way to do that.
- Training is your mind as much as body and technique.
- Only real hardship works. You can't fake it. Push yourself into fatigue, go beyond your limit then .... begin not giving up.
- Facing a faster experienced opponent is the perfect time to step up to your best.
Then keep pushing each other. Create a space of constant challenge. Help each other by pushing them beyond.
The difficulty, your fear, your weakness, is the way forward. Don't go around it.
The obstacle is the way.
