MSS had the great pleasure of participating at the Outland Gate Renaissance Faire on September 26th in Harcourt New Brunswick.
This event has been in the works for two years, and is a labour of love from Ben DauphInee, who has been in the woods with a chainsaw every weekend the weather would allow, prepping the site. The amount of work that went into bringing this event to life is not just impressive, but it speaks to a deep passion, a brilliant vision, a core philosophy our organization identifies with and the ability to patiently put in the work that is required to provide a quality experience.
This site is permanent, and every year, it will grow, every year it will get better and it will provide a true destination experience for a passionate community as well as opportunities for our members to gain employment doing what they love in a range of capacities.
Thank you to the volunteers on Ben’s team, and thank you to the paid workers, like parking attendants and security.
Thank you to our team here at MSS - your passion for our silly little sport lights up every space you are in and attracts kindred spirits.
The site felt right. The fall leaves, the total immersion, the forest paths and the clearings. Opportunities for children to explore and play, special occasions to celebrate, shows, music and an authentic community experience. The first single day event was tremendous, and truly showed the promise that Ben's vision holds.
The practical choices, like capping ticket sales at 300 for the first event, clearing on site parking, using a professional third party food and beverage vendor as well as providing professional security to work the gate, including bag checks all contributed to a well thought out, well organized day.
As someone who has spent over a decade developing a community whose core tenants are passion, patience and quality, not profit - I'm very happy to be a part of Outland Gate, and look forward to growing with their organization.
