I had a realization recently that I haven’t been a very good boss to myself.
the whole reason I became self-employed was because no matter where I went, I couldn’t agree with the people in charge. They would take advantage of my work ethic, they wouldn’t recognize when I went above-and-beyond (which was always), and I had to *fight* for promotions that incompetent men would get no problem.
One time my supervisor told me “when (the boss) says jump, you say ‘how high?’” And that was a moment where I realized, sh*t, this is NOT it!
When I became self-employed, finally I got rewarded for going “above-and-beyond”! Which was awesome until that became the standard. And then I’d be closing my laptop at 9pm and thinking “I didn’t do enough”.
Funny how my coaching program is about not being perfect (The Imperfect Method™), and yet behind the scenes I was really trying to “be perfect”.
Anyways, all to say, I’m learning to have more work-life balance, and that’s pretty epic 😎
