How to get your ice back in shape 🧊
A major cold front is rolling in tomorrow — finally.
You can start as early as tonight 👇
1️⃣ Clear the rink
Remove everything: pucks, nets, sticks, branches. Dig items out of the ice if needed.
2️⃣ Flood it
Do a moderate to heavy flood to re-level the surface, fill grooves, and seal over frozen rain or slush.
❄️ Let it freeze all day
Once fully frozen, resume normal rink maintenance and skating.

Warm Weather Tips for Backyard Rinks ❄️
Toronto is seeing above-zero daytime temps and milder evenings over the next few days. If you want to protect your ice, follow these key tips while conditions are soft:
1️⃣ Do not flood, Zamboni, or torch until temps drop to at least -2°C
2️⃣ Remove everything from the rink surface — nets, pucks, and debris
3️⃣ Shovel fresh snow only — avoid slush or frozen rain
4️⃣ Skates only on the ice — frozen footprints are rink killers
Can I still skate? ✅ Yes
Should I shovel slush or wet snow? ❌ No — shovels can dig into soft ice and create bumps once it refreezes
Protect the ice now = better skating later 👌

Where is the liner?
Good question, we only install our liners and fill with water when it’s cold enough for the water to freeze.
Why wait?
Other than the physics of water freezing, we want to make sure the liner does not get damaged in the wind or by animals.
When does the liner go in?
Our methodology is based on Stefan’s law of ice growth. Our catalyst for putting In the liners is -5 for 10 days or -10 for 5 days consistently. When we see these temps in the forecast we know the rinks will freeze solid making for a longer season and a faster overall freeze.
