Spanish Banks Skimboard Jam 2016 08/26/2016

Big Shouts out to Jasper for putting on the second annual Spanish Banks Skimboard Jam in support of Athletics for Kids. Although no permit was issued the day was jam packed with skim boarding of all levels of fun, a variety of features, and an affirmation that skimming is still alive.

Beautiful conditions at Spanish banks today, couldn't have asked for better boards to ride either 😏 which one do you like the most?

Spring into Wreck 03/21/2016

As temperatures reached the double digits (in celcius obviously) and the rain took a one day hiatus, Skull Skates team rider Tim Ladner and Trevor Gatto decided to hit the shores of Wreck Beach. Might as well get your tosses in now cause once summer hits you'll be dodging naked frisbee players and beer vendors. Not too many man made rails to hit but plenty of driftwood logs to slide and pop over. Be sure and stay tuned to Skull Skates Skimboards for info on boards and upcoming events...

Skull Skates - Ripples 01/31/2016

I've never seen this before and it's horrible quality but makes me really excited to go skim and the soundtrack is sick, made in the days before before HD and video formatting software.

Texeda Tim Warp 07/26/2015

This album was shot at last years Texeda Skim Jam by our resident photographer Nick Maranda. Really it's a phot journal of the trip from the time we missed our ferry and skimmed Roberts Creek, to the parade to sippin' brews on the ferry. The album features Skull Skates Skimboards team riders Nigel Ching, Dylan Maranda, Tim Ladner, Dax, Jesse, Norm, Shane and many others, some vets and some rookies.

This trip is open to all skimmers and defintiely one of the funnest trips of the summer, anyone out there interested in joing please get in touch and we will figure out a place to camp and have a good time.

This launch was originally built for the Kyda competition about three years ago, now onto its third owner Nigel Ching has no problem tackling the height and distance it generates. Thanks to Trevor Gatto for hauling it from Whiterock to Lions bay and back again all for the betterment of the Vancouver Skim scene.

Exploring Texeda Islands hidden shorelines only accessible by logging roads. The only problem was there was more oysters and clams than there were sand banks, made for a delicious meal though.

It's time to start getting pumped up for the best weekend of the summer, any skimmers out there looking to broaden their horizons and join us, we will be hitting multiple beaches and skateparks, come fox with us.

Photos from Skull Skates Skimboards's post 04/20/2015

After attempting to skim Vancouver's Third beach 2 weeks ago we were halted by an oil spill of an estimated 2700 litres of toxic bunker fuel that spilled onto the shores. After reading the signs on the beach we felt it would be safer to go elsewhere considering the adverse affects of ingesting this crap. After scoping a spot we made plans to explore some unskimmed beaches in Squamish, more specifically Nexon Beach. That thursday night a fire erupted on the port of Squamish and the pier set fire for two days. The entire Squamish Valley was engulfed in a black smoke from the treated timbers and the creosote made it difficult to breathe. I heard from a guy there it was like a volcano was erupting and ember and hot ash were falling from the sky making people noxious. Our stupid asses didn't wanna waste the $10 spent on gas to not be able to skim so we hit the shores with smoke in the foreground. While the spot wasn't ideal for skimming, with all of the hidden debris under the water and lack of tidal pools, the sand was fast and it was hittable. Maybe not the smartest thing I've ever done but it did make for some pretty cool photos, hopefully I can still breathe easy next week, enjoy…

Rider Quincy Fox put in work today on this new rail which is bound to be put to good use very soon. comment what features you're riding / features you wanna see us skim in the future!

After a brief production hiatus I just caught a sneak peak at some of the new boards set to hit the streams for 2015. Ironically the same tools we use as promotional tactics are the same devices we are symbolically smashing in the new hatchet pro model, what can you do? Hope to see y'all at the beach for some sessions and check out skullskates.com for information on boards and other s**t you can ride.

February has been blessing us with sunny skies and warm waters, enabling Nigel Ching and Trevor Trever Gatto to hit this chest high feature. Not sure if Nigel landed that second one but either way he got right back up and stomped the next one.

February 19th, The Winter Birthday Session 02/20/2015

With the ski/board season in the gutter, skim season is appearing to come early. Early enough to get seven fellas out for a February Session. The grom's had a pro-day and were hitting the beach, so team riders Quincy Fox and Nigel Ching and friend James met up for a early session. Boom boom!

Timeline photos 02/16/2015

Stumbled upon this photo of Skull Skates Skimboards team rider Nigel Ching taken roughly one year ago when the local mountains used to get snow. Scary to think half way through February and our hills look like they do in the summertime, at least it shouldn't have any negative impact on the skim.

Photos from Skull Skates Skimboards's post 01/12/2015

Seeing Quincy post a photo of his board was rad and inspiring, but even better would have been him riding the thing. It was a reminder that the tides in Vancouver aren't that bad and as long as you got a wet suite and a skimmer as dedicated as Trever Gatto it isn't that bad. Photos taken from Wreck Beach of Skull Skates Skimboards team rider Tim Ladner and of skim enthusiast and photographer Trevor Gatto, enjoy your winter.
