Another super Sunday today! Lots of teaching opportunities for Yudansha today - thru warm ups and stretching, Kihon, Kumite, and Kata.

We dedicated a good amount of time on the first three accessory kata today - Bassai, Niseishi, and Wanshu after some Pinan kata.

We also practiced Shindo and moving leg work in Kumite.

Today and this week I wish to honor my teacher, the late Dai Sensei Saiko Shihan (Top Teacher, Highest Master) Masaru Shintani. May 7th, 2026 marks the anniversary of his passing.
Although he is no longer with us physically, his spirit and teachings live on through all of us, his students.
A true martial artist, Dai Sensei Saiko Shihan Masaru Shintani modelled important attributes such as Loyalty, Humility, Compassion, Strength, Determination, and so many others.
Here are a few pictures of my teacher the late, Dai Sensei Saiko Shihan Masaru Shintani (Supreme Instructor) on the anniversary of his passing. Sensei " YOU ARE GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. " Never a day goes by that your name is not said, you are forever in my heart. My mission to teach your way, and only your way. Your teaching live through us your humble students. I see you in everything we do and accomplish. THANK YOU for everything you have given me and all your students. "LOYALTY TO THE END."
Please take a moment to read about his life ( https://www.wado.ca/wado-history ). You can also watch a clip of Dai Sensei Saiko Shihan Masaru Shintani and myself in his last public demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDuNIBJWLhw

Super Sunday!!! Strong class today with focus on full kata curriculum, Kihon and combos, and technical turns and strength training with Sensei Garrett and Sensei Jennifer Lang.

Super Sunday here at Hombu - we got to practice at our Westshore dojo with mirrors.

We did a technical and mindful practice today with slow, deep, stretching, followed by some Kumite techniques, Kihon, and double performances of nearly all kata curriculum in different direction so we could adjust our form using mirrors.

We closed our class by singing Happy Birthday to Shodan Elaina and enjoying the cookies she brought for us to share!
