Bazan Bay pre-race email has dropped, here is the plain text version:
Message from the Race Directors
Team West Coast, in collaboration with Peninsula Track are pleased to present the 29th annual Saanich Physio+ Bazan Bay 5k, Sunday, April 12, 2026. 11:00 a.m. start, at Fifth Street near Tulista Park.
Race bibs can be picked up at Frontrunners Shelbourne, 3659 Shelbourne Street, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 11th.
Race-day bib pick-up at Mary Winspear Centre in Bodine Hall from 9:00 – 10:30.
Parking is available at Mary Winspear Centre and the adjacent Sidney Community Safety building. Car-pooling is encouraged. On-street parking in Sidney is free on Sundays.
There are bathrooms indoors at the Mary Winspear Centre. There are 2 porta-potties located in the boat launch parking lot near the start/finish line. There are also bathrooms at Iroquois and Tulista Parks.
It's about a 10-minute walk to the start line on Fifth Street near Tulista Park. To get to the start line from Mary Winspear Centre, cross the parking lot, cut through the Sidney Community Safety building parking lot to 8th Street. Take this street to the end near the Sidney Public Works Yard. Turn left and proceed down Ocean Avenue to the roundabout at Fifth Street. Turn right. The start line is ahead of you. Porta-potties will be on the left in the entrance to the Sidney boat launch parking lot. Look for the "Ask Me" volunteers, who will have signs, if you have questions.
There is no supervised bag drop, but runners are welcome to leave bags in the Hall. Team West Coast volunteers will be in the hall for the duration of the event. Please don't leave any valuables unattended.
There are two accessible viewing areas, one on each side of Fifth Street. These will be marked with signage. If they are in use, please be considerate and do not block the view of the race from these areas.
Clubs may set up tents on the grass berm south of the race announcer's tent. Tent spikes are not permitted. If it's windy, use weights to hold down the tent.
Warming up and cooling down on Lochside Drive is not permitted under the conditions of our race approvals. Violators will be disqualified. Lochside Trail is now paved and open between Mary Winspear Centre and Weiler Avenue, which provides excellent and safe areas for warming up and cooling down. For a longer warmup or cool down, take the pedestrian overpass at the end of Weiler and head west on Weiler to the Flight Path (airport loop trail).
No dogs, rollerblades, strollers, baby joggers, or skateboards. No coaches shadowing their runners on bikes. Failure to follow these rules will result in disqualification.
If you run with music, no over-ear headphones. Use only one earbud or bone-conducting headphones with the volume low so you can hear instructions from the race marshals and traffic control personnel.
Only the northbound lane of Lochside is closed to traffic between the start/finish and McTavish Exchange. After the start, merge left into the seaside lane as quickly and safely as possible.
There is water from Old Victoria Water at the start/finish line and at Mary Winspear Centre. There is no aid station on the course.
The race course closes at 12:00 noon. You must be off the course at this time, as the road is reopened to traffic. If, by 11:30, you have not reached the turnaround point, you will be asked to head back to the finish line.
After you finish, stay on the right-hand side of Fifth Street to the crosswalk near the roundabout at Ocean Avenue. The southbound lane will be open to northbound traffic.
After the race:
Massage and physiotherapy services are provided by Saanich Physio+ at the back of Bodine Hall.
Post-race food, including our signature smoked salmon and cream cheese on baguette slices, fruit, cookies and other treats from Quality Foods.
Coffee provided by Level Ground and water provided by Old Victoria Water. Please bring your travel mug and/or water bottle to help us cut down on waste.
