In loving memory of John Q. Duffy🪽

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of a longtime member, dear friend and truly special part of the Royal Ashburn Golf Club family, John Duffy.

A true gentleman in every sense of the word, John was a member of Royal Ashburn for many, many years. Over that time, he became so much more than a familiar face at the Club, he became part of who we are.

Nobody loved golf, or being a part of Royal Ashburn, quite like John. His passion for the game was unmistakable. He could sit and talk golf with you for hours and often did. Whether sharing stories about the game, its history, Scotland (the home of golf), or simply enjoying a conversation with friends around the Club, John had a genuine enthusiasm that was impossible not to appreciate.

For our members, staff and regular golfers who had the pleasure of knowing him, and there were many, John will be remembered for his kindness, his stories, his friendship and, above all, his love for the game and the people who shared it with him.

Golf clubs are ultimately about more than the course itself. They are about the people, friendships and memories created over the years. John was one of those people who made Royal Ashburn feel like home.

He became a cherished part of the Royal Ashburn family, and now he will forever be a part of our history.

On behalf of everyone at Royal Ashburn Golf Club, we extend our deepest condolences to John’s family, friends and all those fortunate enough to have known him. John will be sincerely and deeply missed.

🌺 A Royal Appearance at Royal Ashburn

👑 LONG LIVE THE LORD! 👑

Have you met the Lord Baltimore?

You may have spotted this rather regal resident showing off along our gardens. With blooms nearly the size of dinner plates and a colour fit for royalty, he certainly knows how to make an entrance. 🌺

But here’s the funny part…

His reign is VERY short.

Each magnificent flower of our Hardy Hibiscus ‘Lord Baltimore’ typically lasts for just ONE DAY. 👀

Yep. One day. 😱

The Lord arrives in the morning looking absolutely fabulous… spends the day accepting compliments from golfers… and by tomorrow, his royal highness has abdicated. 😂👑

But don’t worry 😉 this isn’t the end of the royal dynasty.

While each individual bloom has a one-day reign, the plant itself is a hardy perennial, returning year after year and producing a succession of new blooms throughout the summer. One mature plant can produce an astonishing number of flowers over the season.

So when you see one in full bloom, stop and take a moment. You may only have 24 hours with this particular Lord. After all…

At Royal Ashburn, even our flowers have a little royal attitude. 😂
