In July, I learned that one of our founding members, ex-player, our ladies’ coach and someone who has played an enormous part in Costa Gaels, Philip Conlon, had returned to Ireland following the passing of his mother.
I should have reached out to Philip at the time, informed the Costa Gaels committee, senior members of the club and manager/captain s of our football teams and I sincerely apologise for not doing so. It was a significant oversight on my part, and one that I deeply regret.
Although this message comes much later than it should have, it is no less sincere.
Phil’s kids have grown up in the club and been part of the kids club over many years.
Malachy now plays with the men’s senior team, Lillianna plays with the Ladies senior team and Belle is training with the ladies senior team at present.
This also affected Phil’s brother - Pat. Pat is also a founding member, an ex-player and previous Chairperson of the club.
The Conlon family, Philip and Pat, Rachael, Malachy, Lilianna and Belle are very much in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Philip, please accept my heartfelt condolences, as well as those of everyone at Costa Gaels.
