🥃💨 EASY SUNDAY — THE EASY RIDER WAY
Sometimes Sunday isn’t about going anywhere.
It’s about slowing everything down.
Today’s combination: The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve paired with a Don Pepín García Original.
I always prefer to taste things for myself rather than read somebody else’s tasting notes first.
🥃 The Dalmore started with dried fruit, Christmas cake and candied peel on the nose. On the palate I picked up an almost brandy-like richness, followed by orange chocolate and a surprising touch of liquorice on the finish.
💨 The Don Pepín started beautifully. Dark chocolate on the foot, perfect draw and effortless smoke. A little sweetness and liquorice appeared early, with the retrohale incredibly smooth — absolutely no burn. As the cigar settled down, richer chocolate notes began coming through.
But then something interesting happened…
After smoking the cigar, I went back to the Dalmore.
The brandy character had disappeared.
Suddenly the whisky tasted like whisky again — soft, smooth, beautifully balanced and incredibly easy to drink. The cigar hadn’t overpowered the Dalmore; it had actually changed the way I experienced it.
And that’s what makes a great pairing.
Not simply two good things sitting next to each other, but one changing and enhancing the other.
No rush.
No agenda.
Just a good whisky, a great cigar and a little time to enjoy them.
