What happens to your muscles during a massage, and why are you always advised to drink water after a massage? 🤔

Sports massage creates real, measurable changes in your muscles:

🩸Increased blood flow - Hands-on pressure boosts circulation by up to 70%, delivering fresh oxygen + nutrients to tired tissue.
💪 Breaking down adhesions - Deep pressure separates tiny “knots” where fibres have stuck together from overuse.
🦵 Improved flexibility - Kneading + stretching soften tight fascia, helping muscles move with more ease.
💧 Lymphatic activation - Massage helps move lymph fluid, clearing waste and reducing swelling.
😌 Nervous system relaxation - Steady pressure calms nerve receptors, switching off fight‑or‑flight so muscles can truly release.

Why Hydration Helps After a MassageSupports

💧 Fluid Shifts: Massage pressure moves fluids through your soft tissues and into your circulatory system. Drinking water replaces those moved fluids.
🥛 Waste Removal: Good hydration helps your kidneys process and eliminate normal metabolic waste products released during physical stimulation.
🤕 Rehydrating lowers the chance of feeling dizzy, fatigued, or sore after your session.

1st run of the week and 1st one since last Thursday 👍

A gentle 4.5 miles with my Thursday Running Rebel AND wearing my pretty new shoes 🥰 New Balance Running which were like a pair of bedroom slippers, so comfortable 👌

I have found the QR code for my Marie Curie UK fundraising page if anyone would like to donate, I and Marie Curie UK would be incredibly grateful 🙏

⏩️⏩️ PRACTICING WHAT I PREACH 🗣😇

As a Sports Therapist, Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, I believe in leading by example — which means warming up and cooling down properly every single time 😇

DAILY
🧘‍♀️ Yoga every morning; 10/20mins
👣 ALWAYS roll my feet on my spikey peanut **
(And have started standing on my acupressure mat)

🏃‍♀️ FOR A RUN - Short run followed with some dynamic stretches
🚴‍♀️🏋‍♀️ FOR SPIN/CYCLE/GYM - Walk; Slow ➡️ Brisk

**❓️❓️❓️WHY ROLL THE FEET?❓️❓️❓️
There are many many benefits to rolling the feet, whether a runner or not, these are just a few of them;

1️⃣ Improves range of motion: Stretches and mobilizes the 100+ muscles, ligaments, and tendons under the foot.
2️⃣ Breaks up adhesions: Untangles restrictions between the thick fascia network and underlying foot muscles, which in turn, release tight fascia around the calf muscles
3️⃣ Optimizes physical output: Calibrates the body's foundation to support healthier movement chains up through the ankles and legs.

I registered for the Aber 10k today. Beyond using it as a training milestone, I'm proud to support Marie Curie UK, knowing the race was originally created for them in 1998. 🏃‍♀️

I'm well on my way to reaching my £2,500 goal, thanks to the incredible support from everyone who has backed me so far, including The Hut and GREENHOUSE SCAFFOLDING. Grateful for this community! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm struggling with fatigue again at the moment, but I'm hoping my pretty new shoes can help me out, and will do a decent 45min run with Mrs R on Thursday 🤪

Unfortunately I can't add an 'active' link, but this is the address if anyone would like to donate 💗

Sunday swim with The Southern Belles 🤪

🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️ A tad bouncy, but I was able to do a few 100m front crawl, and I had my pretty new hand warmers from to warm my paws after, along with my coffee from ☕️☕️☕️

No run for me today 😞 Body said no!

A full rest day today 🧘‍♀️

A lie in with the hounds 🥰
A walk with the hounds 🚶‍♀️
A lazy couch day......with the hounds 🐶🐶🐶🐶

Last week was a busy week with treatments, classes and training, so today was about resetting my body ready for my third and final training run of the week tomorrow morning 🏃‍♀️

Key Benefits of Rest Days
💪 Muscle Repair: Exercise creates tiny tears in muscle fibers; rest allows cells to rebuild them stronger and larger.
🧘‍♀️ Energy Replenishment: Downtime restores depleted glycogen (energy) stores in your muscles.
⛔️ Injury Prevention: Continuous strain without a break leads to overuse injuries like stress fractures or tendinopathies.
🧠 Hormonal and Mental Reset: Rest lowers elevated stress hormones like cortisol and prevents mental burnout.
