6 Ivanhoe runners 🏃‍♀️ took on Bakewell for the Monsal Trail Half Marathon and 10k — starting at the old Bakewell Station and flying down the former railway line. The route delivered Peak District magic from start to finish, with those iconic views across the Monsal Viaduct stealing the show. 🌄
There were nerves about the disused railway tunnels 🚂but they turned out to be huge — nothing like the tight squeeze at Calke — so panic officially avoided.
Carolyn, easing back from injury, sensibly switched to the 10k and absolutely smashed it: 1st 🥇in her age category, 16th female, and a brilliant 57 minutes.
The half marathon brought the heat — literally. 🔥Clare unleashed enough Deep Heat at the start to fumigate the field, but it worked. She stormed home as 3rd female 🥉 in an incredible 1:39:33.
Trying to hang onto Clare’s pace (and escape the Deep Heat cloud), another PB dropped: 1:44:50, finally dipping under 1:45.
Laura followed with a strong 1:52:08, impressive considering she was wishing she’d taken parkrun a little easier. Still, she claimed 2nd in her age category. 🥈
Nancy and Abby crossed in 2:01:14 and 2:00:57, both keeping things controlled as part of their marathon taper.
The only logical way to finish? Straight into Bakewell for lunch… and yes, the famous Bakewell Tart was absolutely earned. 🥧

Four of the Ivanhoe team headed to Rome 🇮🇹not just for the Pope, but for the Rome/Ostia Half! If you’re expecting the Colosseum or Trevi Fountain… think again. This race is more motorway than monuments 😅 But it is a super-friendly, well‑organised PB course.
Race day started with a 20‑min taxi out of the city (coffee queue longer than the toilet queue—classic Italy ☕). They set off to The Cure alongside 13,500 runners from 100+ countries. No Tyne Bridge or sea view like the GNR, just long roads and one loud Geordie 🤪—but great downhills, great vibes, and a reminder of how amazing the global running community is.
They warmed up the day before at Cafferella parkrun—multilingual briefing, visitors from everywhere, dancing and chocolates. Perfect start to the weekend.
Despite fuelling on more beer, pizza and pasta than ideal 🍕🍺… they smashed it: ✨ Craig – 1:30:58 (PB & Gold)
✨ Clare– 1:34:36 (PB & Gold)
✨ Nancy – 1:57:09, strong comeback ahead of Boston
✨ Julian – hero of the day! Barely trained, thought he wasn’t entered, paid on the spot, and ran his first ever half in 2:06:36 🙌
After a quick look at the Baltic‑style sea 🌊🥶 they headed back for well‑earned pizza. Meanwhile Julian casually “rocks up and smashes it”… (disclaimer: not recommended 😆)
Turns out he was actually entered into the Wizz Air city half—so Rome, he’ll be back. Still more pizza to eat, the Pope to meet, and a PB to beat 🎉🇮🇹

Ivanhoe have kicked off the year in style 💥 - taking on everything from muddy cross country to marathons (with plenty of hills thrown in 🗻❄️).
A brilliant turnout at our Ivanhoe social at Coronation Park parkrun, with over 30 members running — Olly 1st overall and Emily W 1st female. Members also tackled Oakland, Holme Pierrepont, Bydgoszcz 🇵🇱, Bugasee 🇩🇪, Conkers 🌳 and West Park, where Emily P (19:22) and Georgie (20:31) both smashed PBs 🏅
At the Tissington Half, Matt P took 1st and James 22nd, while 9 runners braved the gruelling Charnwood Hills 14 miler — Ramzi leading Ivanhoe home in 24th and Emily W winning her age category (2:06:28).
Paul conquered the “Britain’s most brutal race” -the Winter Spine Challenger South -completing 108 miles across the Pennines in 40:15:09 (26th, 17th age cat) 👏
At the Steve Morris 5 (LRRL), Jamie led 17 Ivanhoe runners home in a 32:02 PB, with more PBs for Clare W, Lucy and Sarah, plus strong debuts from Simon C and Nathan.
Cross country at Martinshaw Woods saw Karl and Helen first back for Ivanhoe, while further afield Ian & Ellen took on the Funchal Marathon (3:17:59 & 5:20:37 debut), and Fiona & Rob went 500m underground at the Kristallmarathon 🇩🇪 (3:23 & 4:49).
What a start to 2026 -bring on lighter nights and more racing 🌞

And here we are, the end of another year - one that has flown by, and looking back (in true NYE-style!), with so many challenges overcome, wins, gains and achievements earnt by so many in the club. 🤩

Ian and Ellen returned to the racing circuit again to begin December; taking part in the RunThrough Running GP events at Goodwood Motor Circuit, organised by RunThrough. Both, once again, put their mental endurance to the test to complete laps of the track in wet weather conditions, with Ian completing eight laps to total the 20 miles. Top perseverance, resilience and effort from them both! 🏁

Meanwhile in sunnier climes, Emily was one of approximately 35,000 runners taking on one of the most popular marathons globally, Valencia Marathon. Emily had a great training block going into the marathon and her efforts were well and truly rewarded during her marathon 'victory lap' with an incredible marathon time and new PB that reflected her progress. Well done Emily! 💥

Mid-December saw eleven of the team representing at the Turkey Trot, organised to support the Keyworth Scouts. A key race for runners in the club, particularly as it draws our club standards window to a close. The course is a single, undulating lap of South Nottinghamshire villages, beginning and ending in Keyworth. A great job done by Tim, Josh, Helen, Ian, Andy, Alistair and Ramzi, with brilliant efforts and times in amongst. Beth ended a great year of running to come away with a new half-marathon PB with Antonia, Lauren and Jonathan also making their distance debuts for the club. 🎽

Just about rounding off the racing year, Matt and Laura participated and ran at the Birmingham Running Festival events, also organised by RunThrough. Both took on the half marathon distance which also brought the added challenge of consisting of four laps of the hilly Sutton Park. Fantastic work from Laura and Matt! 🌳

December has brought a brilliant month of social events to top the year off nicely and bring the festive feels. In our final social parkrun of the year, ten of the team journeyed over to Trentham Gardens parkrun to enjoy the stunning surroundings of the Trentham Estate, with some enjoying the cafe in the shopping village afterwards! Our thanks go to Laura and Matt for organising all of our club social parkruns this year, which have been a fantastic addition to our club social calendar. Our final Wednesday evening session before Christmas always plays host to our annual Christmas lights run, another social run but in and around Ashby, finishing with some well-earnt drinks in the pub! Our thanks again to Matt for organising. Running into the Christmas break, we had a fantastic turnout from Ivanhoe Runners joining the Ivanhoe Robins in the annual mince pie run, this year taking place at their training venue at Ivanhoe School. A great event bringing our two groups together, with the Robins making us work for our mince pies! Finally, as we hit the period between Christmas and New Year, Gemma and Stan brilliantly organised our Bacon Butty Run social, involving planning an approximately 5 mile run route for us (with mud and hills for good measure!) around local village, Blackfordby, followed nicely with catching up, tea, coffee, some cheeky pints in there and bacon rolls all round!

And there we have it with 2025 nearly drawing to a close. We wish all of our league and neighbouring clubs, followers, local runners and our members a very happy new year! 🥂🎉

A group of Ivanhoe Runners and their families headed out to Malaga, Spain for some winter sunshine earlier in the month, with a great weekend had by all that were running or supporting! A huge thank you to Abby for her fab report of their weekend. ☀️🎽

🌞 MALAGA CLUB TRIP 🌞

14 Ivanhoe runners swapped winter layers for sunshine as they competed in the 16th Generali Marathon and half marathon on December 14th, lining up alongside 22,500 other runners.

It’s considered one of Spain’s fastest half marathons, offering a scenic and largely coastal route, with both half and full marathon runners setting off together.

The weather was a welcome upgrade from last year's Turkey Trot, with runners setting off in 15 degree heat and surrounded by fabulous Christmas decorations on route.

While illness and injuries unfortunately prevailed for some of us (the joys of seasoned athletes!), spirits stayed high and a great weekend was had by all.

Thank you to all the fabulous supporters and partners for cheering us on and for taking photos.

And for those who preferred fairways to finish lines, Simon, Julian and Tim also got to enjoy one of Malaga's golf courses - Julian took the win! ⛳️

Sarah - 3.26
Alex - 2.59
Carolyn - 2.58
Abby - 2.10
Lisa - 2.10
Sue 2.02.16
Spencer - 2.05
Mindy - 1.54.17

Laura 3.57.23
Vic 3.55.54
Craig 3.21.20
Andrea 3.57.40
Sandra 3.48.23
Clare 3.26.59

Notable mentions must go to:

- Clare on her PB
- Sarah, Alex and Carolyn who all had injuries and therefore set some great walking times
- Andrea who has competed her 4th marathon in four countries in the past 10 weeks
- Nancy who did all the marathon training but unfortunately on the day wasn’t able to finish the race due to a calf injury.
