🏆 Exciting news!

We have entered the Mental Health World Cup 2027! We don’t know the date or stadium yet, but once we do we’ll let you know.

Last year we raised £2400 for men’s mental health charities - we can beat that this year! Follow this link to donate: https://www.givengain.com/project/mindset-raising-funds-for-mental-health-world-cup-130392

We need to raise a minimum of £1200 🤞🏼

On Sunday we had our first league game in the Home Counties Charity League away to AFC Stevenage Charity Football Team ⚽️

Preparations didnt start too smoothly with a number of withdrawals in the run up to the game, luckily we did arrive with enough players to be able to play.

Squad for the game: Leigh, Jake, Ian H, Sean P, Dan S (Captain), Alan, Paul M, Terry, Lydon, Steve M, James B, Ash C, Matt M and Aidan.

The game started with Stevenage the stronger team and called Leigh into action early on with him having to make some good early saves.

The fellas did get into the game after the first five minutes or so and had some chances to get the ball in the net, with Ash, Paul M and Lydon all having efforts on goal.

Stevenage opened the scoring after around 20 mins with a great shot from around 25 yards out which Leigh couldnt do anything about, the fellas went back to playing and were level a few minutes later with a composed finish from Ash with the assist from Lydon.
The rest of the half was a relatively even game with both sides having efforts on goal and playing some good football.

Unfortnately not long before half time, Stevenage had the ball in the box and a little misunderstanding in defence lead to an own goal and gave Stevenage the lead at the break.

At the start of the second half Jake replaced Leigh as goal keeper and was called into action on a few occasions early on with a few good saves and last minute clearances from the defenders kept the score at 2-1. Stevenage were the better team across the second half overall and took advantage of the tiring legs we had and players with injuries and went on to score 3 second half goals. Mindset had a few efforts with a notable go from Lydon that forced the Stevenage keeper to make a fantastic diving save to keep the ball out of the net.

5-1 was a disappointing score line and probably not a reflection of the fellas efforts throughout the game.
However Stevenage were deserved winners.

It was first leg cup action time yesterday against Stoke Mandeville & Kingsbrook as part of Home Counties Charity League.
A good start to the game with some quality passing and a good number of first half chances with early shots from Paul M and Ash, however the fellas were unable to get the ball in the goal and it was 0-0 at halftime.
A formation change for the start of the second half to hopefully bring some goals, a goal did come however it was to the opposition who started the second half the stronger team. The formation change clearly wasn’t working, another change and substitutions did get us the equaliser from Steve with the assist from Paul R.
A couple of further efforts took us close to the second goal, however a little slowness in defence did allow the opposition to get their second goal. Despite some pressure and efforts near the end, we just couldn’t get the ball in the net again.
Game ended 1-2 to Stoke Mandeville with the second leg to come in October.

Man of the Match: Terry W

A great way to get the season started with many more minutes to come as the season goes on.
