Congratulations to 2017 Lady Captain Ann McCarty who was presented with a Honorary Degree in Education from Ulster University 🎓yesterday 👏🥂

The Vice-Chancellor, Paul Bartholomew, said in his speech:
“Today we celebrate a lifetime of achievement by conferring honorary degrees on a cohort of educators in Physical Education from 1956 to 1979."

He went on to explain that this recognition did not happen by chance. It came about through the determination and positive persuasion of four remarkable women who believed their peers deserved the recognition they had earned. Those women were Ann, Joan, Sheelagh and Carole, who campaigned tirelessly to make today possible.

He also said that education is a powerful force for positive change, that recognition matters, and that

“These pioneering women should never be overlooked. Future generations should know whose shoulders they stand on.”

The McCarty Family celebrated the special honour with Ann also commenting “the lasting impact she has had on so many lives and lives in sport. To everyone who had the privilege of being taught by her, you will know her positivity, her unwavering support for every child, and her belief that everyone could achieve. Strathearn’s sports flourished under her guidance. And for those lucky enough to play for Pegasus Hockey Club, the club she co founded, you'll know just how much she has inspired generations both on and off the pitch.
A powerhouse in a small package for someone who started teaching over 60 years ago”

Our Captain Sam thanks everyone for attending his Capt's Day celebration last night.

Great to have one of our nonagenarians Ken Shields play in the 18 hole stableford competition on Captain's Day. Well done Ken, you are a legend!
