FULL TIME:

DEVS 5-4 RESSIES.

Our first league meeting for both sides certainly lived up to the expectation. It had everything you could wish for: great football, passion, mistakes, exceptional goals.

A 9 goal thriller!

A goal within 30 seconds set the tempo of the match as Ressies James Brown slapped a thunderbolt into the top bins leaving Devs keeper Lambo in shock. 1-0

Devs Matt Foster was having an exceptional game in midfield and started proceedings for the away side, a ball lofted between two defenders saw Mikey Davies take the ball on the chest, it was set on the half volley and he dispatched expertly to the bottom left. 1-1

A bit of drama incurred, A double pick up by Ressies keeper Tim Cuthbert led to an indirect freekick within the box, Matt Wells rolled the ball to Dom G**k who lashed it into the bottom right, off a ressies defender and Devs went 2-1 up.

Steve Beaumont will be claiming he went for goal on the corner, a great ball in all the same came off a Devs head and past their own keeper to make it level. 2-2

Ben Green turned himself into prime Euros Gazza, flicking the ball over Devs right back - he then volleyed from an audacious angle, it nestled into the bottom right and Ressies found themselves 3-2 up.

A calamitous ball back from ressies into no man’s land let Mikey Davies a free token on goal, hasted by the ressies defender who caught up with play, he squared it across the penalty box and Matt Wells finished it off. 3-3 at half time!!

Devs started brighter in the second half and they capitalised, a ball measured over the top, Ash Howlett the recipient, he had to put the burners on for 25 yards, he shot early just inside the box and finished bottom right. 4-3

Devs corner put into the mixer, a leaping salmon in Devs captain Matt Coster met the ball in it’s path and nodded it home. Devs now had the two goal cushion. 5-3.

It wasn’t all said and done yet for ressies. Ben Green, arguably their best player on the night (massive mention to James Brown too) was first to react to a sloppy pass, picked up around 30 yards, used the momentum of the oncoming defender to run past him and finished expertly in the bottom left. 5-4

What a night for the club and both sides, we’re looking forward to the next one👊🏼💛💙
