This volunteer week I would like to celebrate and encourage people to make opportunities for themselves, even if they don’t see a vacancy online that is of interest 💛

When I first stepped into , I instantly felt at home. I thought, how cool would it be if there was a social media page for a vintage charity shop?

There was no online vaccancy for social media, I signed up as a volunteer in person and received a call back soon after for my introduction day. I spoke of my love for vintage & social media, I’m grateful that I had the first few months to settle and get to know people in the shop 👨‍👩‍👧

4 months later the Instagram page was set up and I’ve been volunteering there for 5 years in November! Thank you to the amazing staff at the shop who have supported me & many others.

Don’t be afraid to ask smaller charities or business for opportunities that interest you. The beauty of volunteering is that you can try anything, you don’t need to be qualified or in the best health, just willing to try your best.

I still remember seeing swish event when I was new to Bedford, I messaged Emma directly and asked if I could help out. Just one of the many examples of events & shops I have asked to be volunteer for. Getting involved with the local community has given me invaluable friendships & work opportunities that I have today.

Find what brings you joy.
Ask for it.
Or forever be thinking what if.

A reminder that support and allieship is not just for June, Pride month. The team, including myself, at Rainbow Bedfordshire is here to support the community all year round. The collaboration walk will be back. All of NES walks are still a safe place for q***r people too 🤗
