Our game day warm ups get us focused and ready to go 🤪🤪

Before we step out onto court the songs come on and we get the right feeling for the game ahead….

…. And this feeling beats anything on any scoreboard or league table, the smiles, the fun, the enjoyment ! That’s what we do it for right !?!?

🪽 Look who’s soaring … 🪽

We have another addition to our series where we celebrate the special people involved in our club and their achievements away from Phoenix as well.

A great achievement for Isla who captained Scott Primary Netball team this week. She came up against some familiar faces in some her very own Phoenix sisters though.

Isla is one of our year 6 players currently playing in the Phoenix Embers side.

A great effort and scoring three for her school is amazing. Well done 👏🏻…. As long as they didn’t push each other too hard, we don’t want any injuries for Sunday 😬

✨Wixams Phoenix Sparks ✨

What an achievement already from these girls, getting a win in their first even grading tournament and a draw meant they found themselves in a pre season division 2 which in all honesty wasn’t expected in their first ever season. A team made up of brand new players to the game and age ranging across years 4,5 and 6.

That being said, they came back down with a bump on their first game against Cranfield Lightning which saw the Cranfield team just ‘turn the screw’ each quarter. The girls made the game competitive and the score didn’t reflect the game but Cranfield finished well and we couldn’t find opportunities under the post. Despite the score line the attacking pressure found defensive practice and some good demonstration of beautiful arms and a desire for the ball from LAYLA and ELOISE which we had worked on in training.
The smiles and effort never dropped 😊

WIXAMS PHOENIX SPARKS 0 - 12 CRANFIELD LIGHTNING

Our second game saw a tight affair against Maulden Baycats, a little scrappy netball at times but the fight was there and the spirit was strong.
The Sparks captain, NYLA showing those true team and leadership attributes, moving positions from the bench because ‘I’m the captain and need to bring some big vocals’ 🫶🏻

Taking the lead with sole persistent shooting from LAYLA in the third left her on the bench for the last quarter grinning from ear to ear. Her first competitive goal and we wish we could bottle that feeling.

The most impressive thing was the willingness to listen and learn, with some excellent defensive examples from both CHLOE and LEAH, listening to the coach and tracking the opposition denied Maulden getting an equaliser .

A win! Amazing, this team is already looking very different from when they started out.

WIXMAS PHOENIX SPARKS 1 - 0 MAULDEN BAYCATS

👑 Coaches Player - She doesn’t like listening to her netball mum but has grown her court awareness and movement so much in a short space of time, and securing her first goal deservedly gives LAYLA coaches player. Well done 👏🏻

🔥 Wixams Phoenix Embers 🔥
Our afternoon schedule saw our two years 4-6’s take to the court with our Ember team having back to back games.
Their first game they were pitted against the only team they lost to in their grading matches last week, which saw them thrown into the first division in this pre season mini league.

Maulden are always a well drilled outfit and this Cougars team were no exception.
Two early goals from ANNABELLE settled the Phoenix girls in the first quarter but end to end action saw Maulden pull it square by the end of the second.
.And that is how the game played out, with a tight affair and just one more goal from each team bringing the game to a well deserved tie.
A few lost runners gave Maulden the opportunities they needed and areas to work on on the training court but a solid first display and at times really slick movement throughout the court.

WIXAMS PHOENIX EMBERS 3 - 3 MAULDEN COUGARS

Straight onto court 5 to face Galaxy Protostars next, donning green bibs they had a couple of pocket rockets across their team.

A dynamic start again from our Embers (which are encouraging signs) allowed an early lead with two from TILLY and one from TEIGAN.
Despite a hard fought contest and Galaxy having their chances Phoenix held their ground and slowly but surely securing the lead and pulling away.
A proud display of resilience on court when TEIGAN took an accidental elbow to the face, the determination to stay on court and push through the pain …. What a soldier!
Battling a few more injuries across this game was a juggle with a winding and strained fingers needing emergency substitutions but all the girls slitting into positions effortlessly and the connection between them on court really paid dividends. With some pressure high up the court, reading the ball and securing some well timed turn overs was training court to game day stuff!

A very pleasing display and a good game of netball, thank you Galaxy! 👏🏻

👑 Coaches Player - Across both games really stepped up in every position demonstration both attacking and defending qualities, her reading of the game superb. Well done TILLY

🔥 Wixams Phoenix Fire 🔥
A tough and harsh reality to netball in the years 7-8 years today was felt throughout our new Fire team.
Sometimes all the effort, passion and heart cannot take away being new to the sport and with many of the team picking this up for the first time, their first season was expected to be a challenge but facing a well drilled Maulden side with clinical finishes compounded the fact first thing this morning on court 5.
New players not ever playing together and the general rules and regs clearly played a part today as Maulden fed ball after ball into the circle for their shooters who knew where the net was!

A heavy gap was formed after the first two quarters, enabled time for change and experiment at these young girls stages of their netball journey. Swapping defence for attack and pulling some more experience into the defensive circle made the game certainly more competitive, only going down by 3 and 4 in the final two quarters.

A stint in a shooting position found a place for Nokuntenda who secured her first two goals in competitive competition and a general resilience across the team you wouldn’t find by many in their situation. Esme bravely stepping back onto court when her team needed her!

Compliments rang throughout observers and umpires, relating to what it is like at the early stages and seeing them never give up throughout every quarter and come off head held high was more then enough today.

We have work to do but this was always the plan! Stay strong girls and watch this space. We are only going to get better 💪🏻

WIXAMS PHOENIX FIRE 3 - 26 MAULDEN CHEETAHS

👑 Coaches Player - brand new to netball, an enthusiasm for the sport and a want to listene and learn…. Plus her first ever netball goals! This week goes to Nokuntenda 👏🏻

🐦‍🔥Wixams Phoenix Heat 🐦‍🔥
Heats first outing out after securing their division 2 spot for the pre season friendlies in the Beds & District Netball Junior league was always going to be a tough match up; an experienced Shefford side with athleticism.

The team captained by Lena stepped into Court 6 just after 10.30am and went behind by 3 goals through some dynamic attacking play in the circle. Early signs were worrying but this new side quickly settled themselves into the game and forced Shefford into a real contest, even going into the lead in the 2nd quarter.

Despite maximum effort on court and growing team work, the performance wasn’t quite the same as last weeks grading tournament in honesty. Some wayward passes and difficulty tracking shooters allowed Shefford to stay ahead.

… but again, when it clicked, it really clicked with passages of play flowing from back to front and confidentially converting. Like a seasoned team.

A few sloppy penalties and give aways lost us possession and pushed Shefford just out of sight in the final quarter but this new side will quickly iron out the kinks and are already presenting a problem to some of the more experienced sides. Hardwork and graft cannot be faulted and for the neutral a thoroughly competitive game of netball.

A great representation today and the girls should be more than proud.

WIXAMS PHOENIX HEAT 10 - 15 SHEFFORD SPIRIT

👑 Coaches Player : Stepping in for her first game after absence, she presented a solid defensive line, with great natural timing and determination… making numerous interceptions through the 40 mins. Well done SEREN 👏🏻

Our series dedicated to success away from the club. We love celebrating, not just the girls successes but all those associated with the club and champion what they do netball or other great achievements!

…. And these two are everywhere where sport is! Teigan and Dahlia play for our years 4-6 Embers team and have both been made Sports Captain for the school.
They must have great leadership qualities as they came out of the first netball game with a great win.

Well done ladies. Keep representing 👊🏻
