CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Fantastic results from the gang on Saturday at R2 of the Essex League X/c at One Tree Hill. Huge congrats to Maia, who took on her first Essex X/c. This is an incredibly brave feat in itself and she smashed it, finishing in an amazing 22nd place in the U12 girls. Jacob is progressing nicely and in the U12 boys finished in his highest position to date with a brilliant 26th place.
In the U14s girls, Jessica made her seasons debut finishing in an impressive 25th. Another brave run of the morning was from James U, who has had to step up to the U14 boys this year and after a tough run, he still finished smiling and gave the course his thumbs up.......even on that final hill.
Our last YRs performance of the morning was from Corban in the U16 boys, who cemented his 10th position in R1 with another 10th finish in Rd2. This is incredible and although only the top 6 boys will be selected to represent Essex at the Regionals, Corban may still get the nod as a reserve. So everything crossed that he is rewarded for all his hard work🤞🤞.
Having churned the ground up nicely for Richard, he took to the hills in the afternoon for the Senior Mens race. A stoic run led him round to 125th place out of 222 competitors.

While their big sister was away, the three other Unetteers were at play. Northlands yesterday saw great running again from James making the podium in 2nd place, with brother Harry reaching the dizzy heights of 4th. Not to be outdone, little sister Chloe was 3rd female in 16th place.

Amazing performances from everyone this weekend......please be incredibly proud of all of your achievements, I know we are 🫶 👌💪👍👏👏👏.

PLEASE NOTE, there is NO Tuesday session this week week do to Half Term. Back at Richmond Hall next week.

This Saturday 31st October, our Halloween Special 🎃🐈‍⬛🧙‍♀️👻 meeting at Westley Heights Country Park, behind the Miller & Carter restaurant, High Road, Langdon Hills, Basildon, SS16 6HU. 10am - 11am, £2 for the session. Please do not park at the restaurant (you will be fined). Turn down the lane to the side of their building and follow all the way to the end where you'll find the car park. The toilets are open but are not particularly desirable!! Old trainers or trail shoes please. Dressing up is optional but preferred as long as you can run 😁.

CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A massive well done to Jessica who represented her school last Tuesday in the Senior X/cs at Shipwrights Woods. There were various schools from all over Essex competing and I'm thrilled to say that out of a Y8 girls field of 150 competitors, Jessica finished in 15th place. Awesome stuff Jessica 💪👌👍👏👏.

Our intrepid Northlands Parkrun Warriors were out in force again yesterday. Congratulations to Jessica who came home in 3rd place and 2nd female, James in his usual solid 7th place, followed by an ever smiling Chloe 😁. Well done gang 👍 👏 🙌.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 20th October. We are back indoors at Richmond Hall, Benfleet, SS7 5HA. 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session or week. PLEASE NOTE, there will be NO Tuesday session next week during Half Term 27th October.

This Saturday 24th October, there is NO normal training due to the Essex League X/c at One Tree Hill. I will post the details on our seperate X/c page when I have them.

CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

The cross country season is upon us.......BOOM!!! We certainly got ourselves off to a flyer last week, with great performances from everyone.

A quick mention to Maia and Owen who both competed in their first ever x/cs for their school last week. Showing great endurance and pacing all the way, they both ate up the large field to finish - Owen (Yr3) in 5th place and Maia (Yr5) in 13th place. They were both racing against year older children too, which makes their performances even more amazing. Great running guys 💪👍👏👏.

Onto Hylands where it was a lads only outing. A reminder that this is the Essex League, so all of the athletic clubs and running clubs in Essex are in attendance. Conditions were perfect for running and taking it all in their stride were our U12 boys duo of Jacob and Jake. Fantastic runs saw Jacob finish in 39th place and Jake 47th. Huge congratulations guys, and well done for mixing it with the best of the best 👌 👍 😍.

Our other lads duo was Corban & Harry C in the U16 boys. Always a shock to the system on the first outing, but both lads looked incredible strong throughout their race and all the hard work of the summer season reaped dividends with Corban finishing in an incredible 10th place and Harry an equally fantastic 23rd. Huge congratulations guys, great running and a treat to watch you both doing battle 👌🫶👏👏.

I also want to quickly mention Tilly, who some of you will know as a former member, who is now racing as an U20 woman. As one of the youngest in the field, she finished in a phenomenal 3rd place. Amazing stuff Tilly. So pleased for you 😍💪👏👏.

I was able to cheer on our Junior Parkrunners at Northlands yesterday, and as always, it was a delight to watch 5 amazingly strong performances. Take a bow Jessica who had to muster a sprint finish at the end, to beat a lad to 1st place 👊. James U was next home in 7th, who couldn't shake his brother Harry, who stuck to him like glue the whole way round to finish in 8th. It was great to see Harper back for more this week and rewarded with a new PB, (well done Sarah - mum too 😉). And finally our smiling Chloe in 39th place......all out of a field of 75. Top job guys, very well done 💪 👍 👏👏👏.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 6th October. We are back indoors at Richmond Hall, Benfleet, SS7 5HA. 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session or week. PLEASE NOTE, there will be NO Tuesday session during Half Term 27th October.

This Saturday 17th October, we are meeting at Hadleigh Castle, Castle Lane, SS7 2AP. 10am - 11am, £2 unless paid Tuesday. We will be meeting at the bottom of the lane from The Salvation Army Tea Rooms/Rare Breeds Centre, towards the castle by the gate and bins. There is minimal free parking here. Alternatively, you can park in Castle Road and walk down, which is also free. There is parking at the tea rooms/rare breed centre but this is chargeable. The tea rooms are closed on a Saturday, so there are no facilities here. We will be sticking to gravel paths, so normal trainers or trail shoes will suffice.

CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Some awesome Parkrun results to report on this week.
Our Saturday session this week was taking on Thorney Bay Beach Parkrun. The perfect conditions proved beneficial to everyone and leading by example and from the front was Terry who finished in 5th place, closely followed by our Tuesday volunteer Richard in 7th. It was great to see Darren (Alex's dad), home next in a new 5k PB time. Not too shabby for the 50+ brigade guys 😉.
Our first time Young Runners to TBB were led home by Arron in 51st place, knocking a whopping 2 minutes off of his 5k PB time. Also joining the 5k PBs was Alex who finished next in 66th place. Our sole female Gabriella was next home in only her 2nd ever 5k parkrun, finishing 34th lady out of 138.

Unfortunately, logistics were not on Liam and Jessica's side but they smashed out a parkrun each nevertheless. Well done to Liam who completed his 13th Parkrun at Chalkwell. It was also great to see Michelle (Liam's mum), on the results card too and not too far behind Liam 😊🫶.
Jessica was at Hadleigh where she smashed her way round to finish 23rd overall and 3rd female.
Cracking running all round guys. Huge congratulations on your runs. We'll try to fit in another PR again during the winter season, likely around Christmas if we can 💪👍👏👏.

And so, to Sunday and Northlands. Our usual suspects were on their finest form again with Jessica leading the pack to finish in top spot out of 76 runners. Hot on her heels as ever was Jake in 3rd, James in 13th and Chloe in 23rd, rewarded with a nice new shiny PB. Special mention to Harper who joined the Parkrun community on Sunday, completing her first ever Parkrun and charging round to finish in 25th place. Fantastic guys as always and congratulations Harper on your first one.......we hope you enjoyed it 😀 🙌👍👏👏🫶.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 6th October. We are back indoors at Richmond Hall, Benfleet, SS7 5HA. 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session. Hopefully those that attended last week enjoyed it. We will be keeping the sessions as varied as possible to keep everyone's interest. I forgot to mention last week that parking is now free for half an hour up to 6pm, so anyone arriving a bit ahead of 6pm is ok 👍.

This Saturday 10th October, there will be NO normal training this week as we are attending R1 of the Essex League X/cs at Hylands in Chelmsford. I will set up a seperate WhatsApp group for everyone that has expressed an interest this year and has been allocated a number 👍😊.

CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

As we go into a new running season, we want to wish us a very Happy 7th Birthday 🎉🎉. CPJ Young Runners has now been in existence for 7 years. Thank you to our athletes, parents, supporters and volunteers who have been with us during this time. We couldn't do what we do without your commitment and support. Thank you 😊 😍🙏.

Just a couple of our lads in Parkrun action this week. A huge well done to Ben, who travelled to the very first Parkrun event at Chesterford Research Park in Saffron Waldon on Saturday. A fantastic run saw him finish 121st out of a large field of 382 runners 💪👌👏👏.
Jake was our only juniour parkrunner this week, finishing in 3rd place out of 73, at Northlands and just smidgeons off his PB time. Great running Jake👏👏👍👌.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 29th September. We are back indoors at Richmond Hall, Benfleet, SS7 5HA. 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session. The format for these sessions will be similar to last year (with new additions), and working on our strength, coordination, balance and agility. Whatever our athletes put into the session, they will get out. Please note that if anyone is attending thinking it's a glorified party and wants to mess about, then please don't attend. Likewise, we reserve the right to ask your child not to return to future sessions if they are being disruptive. A lot of planning and preparation has to go into these indoor sessions to keep our athletes as interested and focused as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

This Saturday 3rd October will be attending Thorney Bay Beach Parkrun ⛱️. This is a lovely, flat, out and back course that everyone is capable of doing. This will be instead of our normal Saturday training session. 9am prompt start. Don't forget your barcodes and club colours. Parking is payable in the surrounding car parks or free on the residential roads. We'll meet at the start and finish area which is by the new Street & Co Café, SS8 0DA.

Congratulations to Corban who kicked off the cross country season in fine style on Saturday at the Essex X/c Relay Champs in Epping. Running in a team of 3, Corban took first leg in the U16 boys race. He got them off to a flying start with the quickest split time and after the 2nd & 3rd leg runs, the team secured 9th spot in Essex, out of 16 teams. Way to go Corban. Onwards & upwards 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️👍👏👏.

Just Jake at Northlands Parkrun yesterday, who steamed home to secure the top spot. Very well done Jake 💪👍👌👏👏.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd September is our last outdoor session for the season at JOHN BURROWS, 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session or week. We will be moving indoors for our circuit and strength training sessions over the autumn/winter months from next week Tuesday 29th September. We will be returning to Richmond Hall, Benfleet again for this year. More details next week.

This Saturday 26th September, Waterside Track, 10am - 11am, £2 for the session unless paid Tuesday. This will be our last visit to Waterside before heading to our cross country training venues. PLEASE NOTE that next Saturday 3rd October will be attending Thorney Bay Beach Parkrun ⛱️ 🙏.

CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Massive congratulations to Jessica who ran at Wednesdays final Crown - Crown 5k event. Not only did she whizz round to finish 29th overall out of 105 runners, she cemented her top spot in the Under 18s Champion of Champions, with a score of 23pts, her closest rival receiving 19pts. A fantastic series of runs Jessica over the whole season. Top job and well deserved 👏 👍 🙌 👌 💪🫶.

Our only parkrunners this week were our siblings Harry & Jess C. They ran at Alton Water in Ipswich, a course they've both covered before. Fantastic runs from them both saw Harry finish in 6th place with a great new PB and Jess finish as 6th female, also with a shiny new PB, all out of a of field of 191. Brilliant running guys, very well done 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️👍👏👏.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 15th September we are at Waterside Track, our last visit here on a Tuesday this season, 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session or week. We will be moving indoors for our circuit and strength training sessions over the autumn/winter months from Tuesday 29th September. We have been fortunate to secure Richmond Hall, Benfleet again for this year.

This Saturday 19th September, Waterside Track, 10am - 11am, £2 for the session unless paid Tuesday. We will continue to meet at Waterside until the end of September before moving to our autumn/winter cross country training venues. CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Morning All,

Some fine running at Parkruns this week from two of our Young Runners. Congratulations to Jessica who ran Basildon Parkrun on Saturday to finish 2nd female and 45th overall in a field of 244. She returned to Northlands on the Sunday for Junior Parkrun and finished in the top female spot and 4th overall. Hot on her heels, and getting ever closer, was Jake in 5th place. Great running guys, very well done 💪 👍 👏 👌.

Elsewhere, Arron rounded off his throwing season in style at the EYAL Plate Final in Stevenage yesterday. In an incredibly strong field of javelin throwers, he held his nerve to finish in 4th place with a fantastic new PB by just over 1 metre of 35.83. He followed this up with an emphatic win in the shot put 🥇, equalling his PB distance from last week of 9.36. Congratulations Arron, a great end to the season 👊🙌👏👏.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 8th September we are at JOHN BURROWS, 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session or week. We will continue with our outdoor venues until we run out of light at the end of September, before moving indoors for our circuit and strength training sessions over the autumn/winter months. Venue TBC but hopefully Richmond Hall, Benfleet.

Bank Holiday Monday Results 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A great day was had by all and we hope our Young Runners enjoyed the day, they certainly did themselves and the club proud. We also had two older ex members, who Terry & I coached from when they were 8 years old, join our little team, which was really special. I'd like to see the final medal table, as I think for a smaller, non athletic club, we smashed it 💪 👍 👏 👌 🙌 🫶.

First up was Corban in the 800m who ran a superb race to finish just outside of his best time in 2.17.
Arron and our first ex member Liam were next up to throw the shot put. Liam threw 9.42 and Arron increased his PB by a whopping 3 metres to throw 9.37. Whilst the lads were in action Maia was throwing the turbo javelin and picked up our first medal of the day, finishing in 3rd place 🥉 with a throw of 9.69. She was closely followed by Jake who threw 12.99 in his own turbo javelin competition.

Performances were coming in thick and fast as Owen was next up on the track. He stormed down the finish straight to a 4th place in the 50m, in a cracking time of 9.51. Liam was back in action, and our only jumper of the day in the High Jump where he cleared just short of his PB, a height of 1.70. Before lunch we picked up 2 more medals with Owen throwing the howler to a massive distance of 32.05 to secure a silver medal 🥈. Yours truly attempted a few shot puts to regain my gold medal title in the old lady category🥇.

After lunch, action was back on the track with Jake in the 600m who ran his socks off to our 2nd big PB of the day, knocking 10 seconds off his best time to run 2.05. Next up the 400m and a brave run from Maia saw her achieve another huge PB of 13 seconds to run 1.33. Also running the 400m was Millie, our 2nd returnee for the day, in the WU20 race. A stonking run and another new PB gained Millie our 2nd gold of the day 🥇.

Terry then took to the track to run his 1500m. Showing how it's done, he ran 15 seconds quicker than he predicted he would, in 5.14, finishing in 1st place and our 3rd gold of the day 🥇. Our duo of Arron & Liam were next up in the discus, where Liam threw a smidgeon more than Arron again at 29.81 to recieve a bronze medal 🥉. Jake then rounded off his day in the 150m, running a creditable 24.96. To finish the day off, in the final event of the day, (they'd closed the toilets by now 😆), yours truly flipped the discus enough to nab us our 4th top spot and gold of the day 🥇.

All in all, not a bad day in the office and not only superb performances from the whole gang but huge praise and thanks to everyone for cheering and supporting each other on throughout the day. Well done Team CPJ Young Runners, top drawer stuff. Be proud 👏👏👌👌👍👍🫶🫶💙🤍

CPJ Young Runners News & Updates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

We hope everyone has had a superb summer's break. Back to a bit of normality this week. All our best wishes to our Young Runners on their returns to school, especially Ivy, who starts her sixth form journey at SEEVIC and James U and Noah who start at their new secondary schools. You've got this guys and girls🍀🍀.

I will report on yesterday's brilliant achievements a bit later in the week. For now, I'll concentrate on our 4 Parkrun results from Saturday & Sunday.
Many from our adult club attended Basildon Parkrun on Saturday to celebrate one of our members, Bert turning 90......yes that's 90 and still running Parkruns 😮🥳. A huge well done to Jessica who stormed home in 29th place and 6th female and Jake who finished in 53rd place, from a field of 205. Great running guys 👌💪👏👏.

Sunday saw just the male contingent of Team Unett run at Northlands. Congratulations to James, who placed 6th and Harry who placed 12th out of 61 finishers. Well done lads 🙌👍👏👏.

**IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT**: Entries for this year's Essex X/c League are now open. Years 5 & 6 will race as U12s and Years 7 & 8 as U14s. Please, please let me know as soon as possible if your child wishes to do ANY of the races, as I will enter them at the start of the season. Any questions, then please shout.

Today, Tuesday 1st September we are back at WATERSIDE TRACK, 6pm - 7pm, £2 for the session or week.

This Saturday 5th September, Waterside Track, 10am - 11am, £2 for the session unless paid Tuesday.
