⚽ Blackburn Black 9–2 Murie Red

The heavens opened on us today at Bankton Mains, with the lads taking on a determined Murie Red side in some seriously challenging conditions. Rain, mud and white kits… the parents were absolutely delighted! 🫠😂

We started slowly, with both teams battling hard for control in the middle of the park. Murie Red drew first blood with a good finish, but the boys showed great character and kept working their way into the game.

We created chance after chance in the first half, with around six opportunities coming our way, but the Murie keeper was outstanding and kept his team in it with some excellent saves. Eventually, we found our rhythm and went into the break 2–1 ahead.

The second half was a different story. The boys came out with real fire in the belly and started playing some fantastic football. We saw some brilliant line-breaking passes, good movement off the ball and, importantly, the wide players really starting to take control of the game.

For us, it’s not just about the scoreline. Seeing the lads develop their understanding, confidence and ability to make decisions on the pitch is what makes days like today so rewarding. They showed that when they move the ball quickly, work for each other and trust their teammates, they can produce some excellent football.

A special mention to Mo, making his debut for Blackburn Black, who marked the occasion with a fantastic hat-trick! 👏⚽⚽⚽

Another hat-trick for our magical number 9, Shay, who absolutely bossed it today and led the line brilliantly. 🔥

And completing the hat-trick trio was our quiet assassin, Loui, who was a constant threat out on the wing and capped off a superb performance with three goals of his own. 👏

The final score was Blackburn Black 9–2 Murie Red, but huge credit to Murie Red for their effort, attitude and determination throughout the game. They never stopped competing, and their goalkeeper in particular produced a brilliant performance.

Match report - Blackburn V Bathgate Gold.

A strong performance at home today as the boys bounced back from our Scottish Cup defeat with a deserved 3–0 victory over Bathgate.

From the first whistle, the team showed a great attitude and a clear desire to put into practice the areas we have been developing in training. There was some excellent controlled football throughout the game, with the boys showing good composure in possession and producing some quality line-breaking passes to move the ball through Bathgate’s defensive structure.

Defensively, the team were equally impressive. Bathgate created a number of good opportunities, but our defenders worked hard to manage the threats, while the boys between the sticks made some important saves to keep a clean sheet.

At the other end, Bathgate’s goalkeeper had an excellent game and made several very good saves to keep the scoreline to three. Credit to him for his performance.

Most importantly, there were plenty of positive signs in terms of our development today — from our decision-making and ball retention to our ability to break lines and defend as a unit. These are the performances and experiences that help the boys continue to grow as players and as a team.

Well done to all the lads for their effort, attitude and application today. Plenty to be pleased with, but also plenty for us to continue working on.

Our first outing in the Scottish Cup was a disappointing result, and one that ultimately came down to our own performance.

We knew going into the game that Melrose would be a strong side, but we gave them far too much respect from the start. We stood off, allowed them time and space on the ball, and let Melrose dictate the game rather than imposing ourselves on it.

The biggest lesson for the players is that we cannot wait for the opposition to play the game on their terms. We need to be brave, compete for the ball and take responsibility when we have possession. When we stood off, we made the game easier for Melrose and harder for ourselves.

We also used the game as an opportunity to change our formation and give the players experience of playing in a different system. There were periods where the change worked well, but as with any development, it highlighted areas we need to improve. The players need to become more comfortable understanding their roles, communicating with each other and adapting when the game changes.

There is no point hiding behind the result. We lost because of how we performed, and we need to be honest about that. At this age, though, the important thing is how we respond and what we learn from it.

The Scottish Cup is a great opportunity for these players to experience competitive football, different opponents and different challenges. We should use this game as a learning experience rather than dwell on the disappointment.

The standard has to rise. We need to be more aggressive without the ball, closer to our opponents, quicker to compete and much braver in possession.

There were positives to take, but the performance wasn’t at the level we know these players are capable of. That’s something we will work on.

The result matters, but the development matters more. The response in training and the next game is where we will see the real progress.

Cup Match Report

Blackburn Blacks V Peebles FC

Final Score: 8 Nil to Peebles.

A tough one for the lads today as we faced a very strong Division 2 side in our first cup game.

It was always going to be a big step up in competition for our wee team, and while the boys weren’t quite able to match the quality of the opposition,they fought hard from the first whistle to the last and never stopped trying.

We had a few moments of magic throughout the game, creating some good opportunities and having a few attempts just miss the target. On another day, we could have had a couple to show for our efforts.

The scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort and determination shown by the boys. For their first experience of cup football at this level, they can be incredibly proud of themselves. Every single one of them left everything on the park.

A big learning experience for the team, and one that will definitely make them stronger going forward.

The quiet assassins. Came to us with Zero experience playing for a team and have shown massive improvements week on week with them both developing at an incredible pace. Fantastic additions to the squad… cant wait to see them flourish as season fires on 🙌

We go again with, Aiden R and Ewan.

Left footed wizard and our tank in the middle. Our most recent signing Aiden (Bruno) came to us from the Edinburgh league and has been a massive addition to the squad, fitting in just nicely and giving us a different threat going forward. Our tank in the middle… Ewan has given us 100% every time he graces the pitch. Blood (Literally), sweat and tears and he never gives up. What a machine this boy is 🙌🏼
