Impromptu little after work sessions are so often the best! Minimal prep, maximum reward 😁😁

I Thought It Was Nothing... Then THIS Happened! 😱🎣

Just a tiny knock on the rod... nothing exciting, right? Wrong! 🤯

I picked up the rod to reel in and a smoothound suddenly tore off down the beach. Sometimes the smallest bites hide the biggest surprises!

What the Fish Can See That Anglers Can't 👀
A rare drone view of a huge shoal of bass and garfish moving across a shallow reef. This is exactly why understanding the seabed is so important when beach fishing.

❌ Wrong Spot... ✅ Fish First Time in the Right Spot
This clip shows exactly why I never leave a bad cast out for long.

The first cast missed the target. The second landed right on the reef edge... and the result speaks for itself. 🎣

How to Find Fish From the Beach (Most Anglers Cast in the Wrong Place)! 01/06/2026

Wahoo! I made a video! It's been a while again! Sorry! I am, however, really pleased with this one. It's a great video full of useful hints and tips (I hope!) and plenty of fish, of course! I also accidentally captured the most amazing thing I've filmed using my drone! Watch it on a big screen, not your phone, for the best picture...
Hope you all enjoy it.

How to Find Fish From the Beach (Most Anglers Cast in the Wrong Place)! How do you catch fish from the beach when most of the coastline is just featureless sand?In this video I head to one of my favourite reef marks at Hengistbur...

Liam beat me to our first Stanpit mullet of 2026!!! I'd like to blame the equipment, but as you can see I was using nothing but the best...

Help!!! We need newspapers in the shop! Tabloid sized preferably. If anyone has any spare, I'd hugely appreciate them...

That time of year is upon us yet again! Mullet spinning season commences this Friday, 15th May, in Christchurch Harbour. Many of you have alread started in other waters, of course, but due to the archaic and frankly silly salmon and sea trout spinning rules, we can't start spinning in Christchurch until the middle of May!

It does serve to build up a lot of excitement, though! And I'm super excited, as always! If, like me, you do a lot of this style of fishing then you'll appreciate having a dedicated setup. I spent years tracking down what I believed to be the perfect rod for this style of spinning, I wanted a light casting rating to perfectly work the Mepps but I wanted it longer than most lighter rated rods, which tend to be around the 7ft mark. I also wanted a tubular tip, not a solid tip. A slower action was my ideal, rather than a super fast rod like many modern lure rods, too. When I eventually stumbled upon the Savage Gear SG2 2.7m 3-15g rod a couple of years ago, I was blown away! An absolutely stunning rod that ticks every single box on my wish list, and is under £100! Perfect!

The first time you play a fish on this rod, you'll understand why I wanted this specification! It's a joy to use!

Now, ready for this season, I have put together a combo with this rod, the Savage Exorus 2500 reel and a spool of 16lb Spiderwire Stealth Smooth x8 braid. I have even gone to the effort of spooling the reel up for you and adding a Seaguar fluorcarbon leader. Ready to go! Available in store or online now! Check it out below 👇

Popped out for a bit of fun on the kayaks yesterday evening with Liam and Alex. A good opportunity to try out the new Axia range of lures, which are seriously impressive for the money! This one fell to the Axia Glider, a nice simple top water lure that "walks the dog" really easily and casts well. Not bad for £8!
