And just like that, after saying goodbye to Rich, we were straight back into the business of committee reshuffles and questionable life choices...

Please welcome your newly elected Vice Commodore, Garf! 🎉

Many of you will know Garf already. Usually from one of three places:
🍺 Behind the bar
🍺 In front of the bar
🍺 on the boat

Our resident tall teddy bear brings plenty of laughs, plenty of enthusiasm, and a voice that can travel from one end of Sabrina 6 to the other without the aid of any marine communication equipment.

He's also partial to a sneaky selfie, despite repeatedly claiming he "doesn't like photos." Much like people who say they're "only having one drink," it's a statement that simply doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

So please join us in congratulating Garf on his new role. We know he'll be a fantastic support to Commodore Dennis, a great addition to the leadership team, and, most importantly, another person we can blame when things go wrong.

Congratulations, Garf! We look forward to seeing what you bring to the role... and to the inevitable increase in accidental selfies on Sabrina 6. 🚤🍻📸😂

Come drink, dance and generally be merry.

Last weekend our lovely Rich officially hung up his Vice Commodore hat after an incredible 13 years in the role. ⚓️

For more years than most of us can even remember, Rich has been a huge support not only to Commodore Dennis, but to the whole club and everyone in it. From events and meetings, to fixing things that mysteriously “weren’t broken yesterday”, helping behind the scenes, offering advice, and generally keeping things ticking along — Rich has given so much of his time to Sabrina and the club over the years.

People often only see the fun side of club life, but behind every good club are people quietly putting the hours in, and Rich has been one of those people for a very long time.

But before anyone starts worrying that this is a full farewell post… don’t panic. We absolutely were not letting him disappear into retirement that easily.

The conditions of stepping down were very clear:✔️ Enjoy retirement✔️ Put your feet up occasionally✔️ Stay on the committee

Some contracts simply cannot be escaped. 😏

On behalf of everyone at the club, thank you Rich for your dedication, support, patience, humour and the many, many years you’ve given to Sabrina and Bristol Cruising Club. It really is appreciated more than words can say.

Now please all join us in raising a glass to Rich… before Dennis remembers another job that “will only take five minutes.” 🍻

Down the Avon and back, a gentle cruise with absolutely no competitive overtaking whatsoever 👀

Special appearance this week from the Commodore and the newly appointed Vice Commodore, enjoying a little “team bonding” on the water… under the careful supervision of Brian.

(And by supervision, we of course mean leading the way like a proud tour guide who’s definitely done this route 700 times before 🚤)

Back to Bristol Cruising Club afterwards for a few cheeky drinks aboard Sabrina 6, tall tales, weather discussions nobody asked for, and the usual “I’m only staying for one” promises. 🍻

Whether you paddle, cruise, wobble or simply come for the bar chat — all welcome.

Boats, banter and mild chaos guaranteed.

It’s that magical time of year again… where we combine club business, voting, mild legal confusion and an alarming amount of beige buffet food into one glorious evening. 🇺🇸🍔🌭

The weather is looking BEAUTIFUL ☀️ so we’ll be making the most of a summer evening down on the pontoon — after we’ve handled the official AGM business and everyone pretends they fully understand the proposed rule changes. 🗳️📋

🍟 PLEASE BRING A PLATE 🍟

📋 AGM BUSINESS Come ready to:
✅ Vote on proposed new rules
✅ Support your club
✅ Nod seriously during important bits
✅ Avoid eye contact when volunteers are requested 👀

🚪 IMPORTANT 🚪
Doors will SHUT PROMPTLY at 8:30pm while AGM business takes place and will reopen once the official/legal grown-up section is complete.
(No sneaking back in claiming you were “just checking the weather.”)

Then it’s back to:
☀️ Drinks on the pontoon
🍔 American supper feasting
⚓ Summer evening vibes
🍷 And the usual club chaos we all know and love
