Congratulations to everyone involved in this year's Welsh Petanque Association Home Nations ranking event which was held at Vale Petanque Club. While disappointingly low in team entries it was still great to see the camaraderie amongst all the players.

We wish them well as they head to Stirling Wolves Petanque in August to proudly represent Wales against Scotland, England and Jersey.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Today's Welsh Petanque Association National Precision Shooting Championship was well supported with 20 participants coming together down at Vale Petanque Club for this year's title.

Some impressive preliminary round scores saw a few seasoned players make way for some new talent to make their way to their first head to head knockout. Some tense moments and close scores in the semi-finals continued into the finals where we congratulate the following :

Women's Title: Tansy Mayfield beat Jayne Dunn (both Caerleon RFC Petanque)

Men's Title: Cai Jones (Vale PC) beat Marcus Chapman (City of Llandaff PC)

Congratulations to Tansy and Cai. 🎉🥇🏆

Many thanks to everyone involved - not only the players but also the volunteers from the WPA Committee (Tony, Jean-Yves and Rob) who spent countless hours ensuring the event ran smoothly. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

An ever popular weekend Caerleon RFC Petanque that goes from strength to strength.

We are very proud of our Bastille Weekend which has grown from a small in-club event, to a full weekend of cheerful & competitive pétanque - so popular that we have to create extra pistes for our visitors! In the past few years we’ve welcomed players from across Wales, the UK and Europe (Finland, Germany, Spain, Sweden & France so far). We are based at Caerleon RFC, and we honour the competitive, community-focused nature of the Rugby Club in the spirit of our tournament.

SOLD OUT!!!! Saturday 11th July is our Bastille Mêlée: This event is opened to our club members first of all, and then offered to our ‘club friends’ (people who have played in it for several years and those who always bang out good fancy dress!) - for a second year it is sold out before being able to offer it more widely. We play 4 games, with a raffle and our legendary mad shooting competition during the break. French themed fancy dress is strongly encouraged (and rewarded!). A generous buffet lunch is included in the entry fee, and there are a range of prizes on offer - including the coveted “Most Average” prize. This event is sold out - capped at 90 entries, but we are holding a waiting list for those who might like to play. Contact Barbara (see below) if you’d like to add your name to the list.
Registration is 10.00-10.15am.

Sunday 12th July is the Caerleon Open Triples: this is a competitive event, but still played with friendship foremost. All entry fees go back in prizes, and this is topped up by the club. The prize pot increases with entries but last year we had £150 first prize and 3 other cash prizes for those in 1st and 2nd of the Gold and Silver comps. Teams of 4 are welcome. Format depends on number of entries, but will consist of a snake or pools in the morning, followed by knockout in the afternoon so everyone will have a minimum of 4 games.

We don’t offer lunch so please bring your own – although the Rich Bean café will be open all day and they serve good coffee as well as lunch and snacks. Again, we have had some advance booking from past teams, so don’t snooze on this one!
Entry is £21 per team.
Registration is 9.15-9.30am.

Both events are unlicensed, so all players are welcome. Entry is by pre-payment only ( contact [email protected]).

The bar will be open from 12pm each day (note that you are not permitted to bring your own alcoholic drinks) and the Rich Bean coffee shop will be open - especially handy for grabbing lunch on the Sunday.
